Hello!

It was absolute mayhem at Aldi this morning as grown women shoved and jostled and literally elbowed one another out the way to get their hands on the treasured Lacura Caviar range of products.

There was a queue of about 50 people this morning snaking out of the shop, waiting for Aldi to open its doors. The metal gates drew up and everyone walked in quite orderly. But as we all got closer to the Special Buys shelves, heartbeats quickened and there was a mad rush for the signature royal blue and silver packaging.

The lucky few who got there first, grabbed their facial loot but couldn’t find their way out of the throng. One lady was getting desperate screaming: “Let me out of here!” One desperate woman slapped another in irritation: “Stop shoving!” Many just shook their heads at the bizarre craziness of it all.

I managed to find my way through the throng and grabbed what I needed and emerged victorious, and relatively unscathed (the last time this was on sale, my earing was ripped out of my ear in the crowd). Pshew!

Frenzy

One woman told me that she couldn’t believe the frenzy. It was her first time trying to get a sample of the cream and never expected to have to fight tooth and nail for a pot of moisturiser.

The shelves were pretty much scavenged and after 10 minutes, there were only a few serums left. Many customers were visibly disappointed that they lost out and couldn’t believe it when Aldi staff confirmed that there was no product in the back and all had been nabbed in seconds.

Hey, That’s Unfair!

While most of us were at the shop to get a few jars to wrinkle out the lines on our face, there were a few with more commercially-minded intentions. I saw a couple grab a number of boxes of the products and pretty much had a trolley full of the range. In a situation that smacked of the baby formula debacle, it was pretty obvious that they were going to re-sell the product for a profit.

Looking on eBay, Lacura Caviar Day Creams sell for around $40 – whereas they were priced at $19.99 at Aldi – so double the price.

I was in the same checkout line as the dubious couple and customers were very vocal how disgusting it is that they were allowed to purchase boxes and boxes of product, while so many couldn’t even get their hands on one single pot. The cashier was sympathetic and agreed with the disgruntled shoppers, suggesting that they complain to Aldi and demand that these kinds of Special Buys get a maximum product restriction!

What’s On Sale Today!

The three products on offer today are:
Caviar Illumination Day Cream SPF15 or Night Cream 50ml for $19.99
Caviar Illumination Intensive Anti-Wrinkle Revolution Serum 15ml for $14.99
Caviar Illumination 7 Days Intensive Treatment for Day and Night 14 x 3ml for $14.99

The products have been compared to the luxury facial brand La Prairie. A 50ml pot of La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream costs around $600, so it’s understandable what the fuss is all about when Aldi sells a similar product for so much cheaper.

I’ve been using Lacura Caviar for a few years now and am a loyal devotee. It really is a nourishing, gorgeous range and so affordable.

I’m just relieved that I was able to get stock of my favourite face cream, but I certainly don’t look forward to the crazy crush when they come on sale again.

  • Wow…people are just so sad sometimes. If adults are like this I hope they dont have children. My parents brought me up with better manners and learning to share.

  • Sounds lovely but I try & avoid the rush at these types of things.

  • I don’t go to these things because I have no desire to be involved in any sort of push and shove or oversized crowd.

  • Did interest me but have been to Aldi when there is a special buy on and it’s crazy. I think they need to out a limit per person

  • I would never go to these crazy sales they have. I’ve yet to hear that they have a lot in stock. It should be limited to one or two per person. Glad I don’t use this product

  • I never tried this brand before.

  • I really despise Aldi for doing special buys, they really are just making people more crazy. I never bother because the ones near me never have enough stock or if they have what is in the catalogue at all.

  • If it’s that popular maybe they should add it as a permanent line. Can’t say I was interested but I went in for something else, no hustle and pretty sure they had plenty left but this was day 1.

  • Wow, just wow. It’s always disappointing to hear about this side of humanity and the lengths people will go to for greed.

  • This happened last time too if I remember correctly?

  • In alot of QLD stores they do put a restriction on for product in high demand. If you look on the bottom of all their catalogues it states, “Aldi Stores reserve the right to limit purchases to reasonable quantities.”

  • This is quite funny! I cannot believe the lengths people go to for such silly things!
