Hello!

Finally…Vegetarians rejoice! McDonald’s Australia has launched the highly anticipated McVeggie Burger to all restaurants nationwide.

This new burger will be a permanent addition to the menu, making it the first time a vegetable-based burger has been available at all McDonald’s restaurants in Australia.

The burger will feature a crunchy patty packed with potatoes, peas, corn, carrot and onion. This will be topped with cheese, lettuce, herbs and spices, mayonnaise and Macca’s iconic pickles, all on a sesame seed bun.

“We know there’s an appetite for alternatives to traditional meat proteins and Australians are looking for more plant-based options in their diet,” said Jenni Dill, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s Australia

The Burger Is NOT Vegetarian

However the McVeggie Burger is not strictly vegetarian.

“For those who are vegetarian, although there are no meat ingredients in the McVeggie Burger, due to its cooking procedure, it’s not strictly vegetarian,” added Ms Dill.

The McVeggie Burger will be available after 10:30am at all McDonald’s restaurants across Australia.

  • Not the best veggie burger I’ve ever had. But glad they finally have a veggie option!

  • I don’t visit Maccas all that often and tend to forget about the new products. Next time I’m there, I’ll definitely order one of these……if I remember

  • No way would I try these. Most vegetarian things contain high potassium due to the vegetables used and when you are on a zero potassium diet you can understand the problem.
I also fail to understand why vegetarian food has to copy meat products – it doesn’t make sense to me at all.
Burgers are meat products, vegie patties would be a better alternative name, to my mind.

  • I prefer a normal McDonald’s burger but I wouldn’t mind giving it a try. If it’s not strictly vegetarian because of the cooking procedure it’s probably the same for Hungry Jack’s. Can’t see them installing a cooking plate just for one type of burger

  • I think it’s good that McDonald offers a veggie burger option. It happened so often that my kids ended up only ordering some fries because there were no vegetarian options available, that they rather went to Hungry Jacks where they do sell veggie patties since many years.
However I would like to know what it means that due to its cooking procedure, it’s not strictly vegetarian. Most likely they bake the veggie patties and the meats at the same plates using the same utensils; which I absolutely wouldn’t like !

  • I’d give this a go- I grew up on vegetarian food so I do like the taste.

  • So this is not targeted to vegetarians, just another option. I love a vegie pattie sometimes for dinner with salad, so I’d try this.

    • I like veggie burgers too – a lighter option for me.

  • I may be stupid but isn’t a burger meat,if I want vegetarian food I will buy vegetarian, why does everyone have to be so complicated?Cheer’s Krusty.

  • A detailed explanation about the cooking procedure would be good.
An educated and informed choice could then be made about buying and eating this burger.

  • Can we have an option that’s not fried please

  • I’m looking for a vegetarian and healthier option. This patty looks very high in calories as it looks fried in a lot of oil
