This evening, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the annual #WellChildAwards in London. WellChild aims to ensure every child and young person living with serious health needs has the best chance to thrive with the support and medical care needed in the comfort of their own home. The Duke of Sussex became Patron of WellChild in 2007, and last year both The Duke and Duchess attended the awards to honour the children and families that WellChild supports. The Duke, who first came to these awards over a decade ago, shared in his remarks tonight: “Last year when my wife and I attended we knew we were expecting our first child – no one else did at the time, but we did – and I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tightly during the awards, both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day, and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time. And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heart strings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own.” • To find out more about tonight’s event and how you can support this very special organisation, please visit @WellChild Photos ©️ PA images

It seems even The Duchess of Sussex is not immune to the emotions of being a new mum, after Meghan came close to tears after she was asked if she was OK. The emotional clip was released after the Duke and Duchess’s trip to Africa in the lead up to the documentary release by ITV  “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey”. Reporter Tom Bradby asked the Duchess if life had been a bit of a struggle since joining the Royal family, and even more so adjusting to life as a new parent.

“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn, you know. And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So, you add this on top of just trying to be a new mum or trying to be a newlywed.”

“And, also, thank you for asking, because not many people will have asked if I’m OK,” Meghan said. “But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

The 38 year old Duchess gave birth to Archie in May this year and has received intense media scrutiny throughout her entire pregnancy and since the birth of her first child, which Prince Harry has filed a law suit against the British media for.

It’s quite refreshing to see a Royal family member being so candid about her experiences as a parent, mostly we only see a world full of smiles and joyous occasions, and sometimes we forget that it doesn’t matter how much help you have, you feel every aspect of being a parent.

has come to an end, but The Duke and Duchess have had the opportunity to look back on an incredible 10 days through South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Malawi. Thank you for following along! Their Royal Highness’s journey took them 15,000 miles across southern Africa where they we’re greeted by so many amazing people along the way. They witnessed the great partnership between the UK and Africa, met local community groups, leaders, and youth and elders, who all imparted knowledge and inspiration. On their final day of the tour, The Duchess said: “Please know that you have all given us so much inspiration, so much hope – and above all, you have given us joy.” • During their tour, The Duke and Duchess unveiled three new Queens Commonwealth Canopy projects, protecting forests and planting trees, and worked with the British Government to announce investment of £8m in technology and skills in the region. The Duke traveled to Angola to focus on the ongoing mission to rid the world of landmines, an extension of the work that was pioneered by his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The Duchess announced gender grants from the Association of Commonwealth Universities to improve access to higher education for women, as well as four scholarships for students studying across the commonwealth. Throughout this trip they were able to join an important and essential conversation about the rights of women and girls – not isolated to Southern Africa, but also globally. Throughout this visit, The Duke and Duchess were struck by the spirit and generosity from every community they visited. Speaking to young entrepreneurs in Tembisa, a township in Johannesburg, The Duke said: “As I raise my own son, I want to make sure that what I’ve learned here – the value of the natural world, the value of community and friendship – is something that I can pass on to him.” • Thank you to everyone who supported from afar, and those who have followed along the way! We hope you enjoy this wrap up video to the tune of a wonderful song by The Soweto Gospel Choir, a favourite of The Duke and Duchess. Video ©️ SussexRoyal

  • Such a hard one when they said they wanted to be away from the media and the spotlight but now they seem to want it back. Everytime it goes quiet they do something to put the spotlight back on themselves.

  • I haven’t been following so I never knew her pregnancy was under scrutiny.
Hoping she is feeling much better now.
I know it would be so hard seeing negative comments and things about you from people you don’t even know.

  • Hope the media pack leaves her and Harry alone while they vacation in USA. The Prince Andrew scandal should give them something else to think about for a while anyway.

  • A very honest and candid account. Well done to her for opening up.

  • Love that she is so real. I feel for her I would really struggle being in the public eye like that.

  • I imagine no-one has actually ever asked her how she’s feeling — hence the really honest and raw reaction.

  • I am looking forward to watching the show. It would be hard to adapt to motherhood, married life, royal life etc, but she did not make it easy for herself either. Maybe now she will settle down a bit more and conform and start enjoying the role rather than always trying to change it. There is so much potential for her to do some amazing charitable things and be admired by the world.

  • I so happy she has spoken up and stood up for herself I don’t know how she went through a pregnancy and being new first time Mum with all this negativity and bullying surrounding her. People who have produced shared and continued to try and pull her down should feel appealed at themselves and hopefully learn a lesson from this…but alas they probably won’t

  • I love that she has been open about how difficult it can be as a new mum. It is hard enough without being in the spotlight and having millions of people judging you for every decision you make and having the media scrutinising your every move. She is doing an amazing job!

  • She is a lovely person, very down to earth. That’s why Meghan and Harry make such a great couple. He’s very down to earth as well. I hope Meghan will be left alone for a while. She has been attacked too often and they need to leave her alone so she can just be a Mum and relax when she can. All the best to them both
