A Melbourne IVF clinic is offering women from interstate and overseas a complimentary hotel stay as part of their fertility service.

The IVF process can be a lengthy and challenging one, particularly if you have to travel a significant distance to receive fertility treatment.

A Melbourne IVF clinic seems to have found the answer, offering patients travelling from interstate and overseas a complimentary hotel stay, allowing them time to recover after their egg freezing procedure.

Reducing Stress

Fertility specialist and clinic director Dr. Lynn Burmeister told 7News that the decision to offer accommodation s part of the service was a no brainer.

“What we are providing for patients is a nice hotel room close to our clinic for a few days, so they can come and freeze their eggs, be relaxed and not be stressed,” she said.

“It’s a very stressful process and it’s a big decision for a lot of women to freeze their eggs. We like women to stay in Melbourne after the egg collection for a couple of days, just to make sure everything’s ok.”

Time Sensitive

Dr. Lynn has used the interest in her clinic’s service to remind women that egg freezing is most effective when done before the age of 35.

“Eighty percent of my patients doing IVF with their own eggs are over 37 and they say to me ‘I wish I had frozen my eggs because my egg quality isn’t good anymore,'” she said.

Despite the inclusion of a hotel stay in the service, it doesn’t come cheap, costing around $2500 for the freezing process and an additional $400 a year for storage of the sample. Regardless, the number of women choosing to take ‘egg freezing’ holidays is on the rise so we can only assume that more clinics will start to offer complimentary accommodation before too long.

  • I bet it’s somehow incorporated in the overall cost, though.

  • My husband and myself underwent IVF twice and the cost for accomodation was pretty steep, we ended up having to travel 7+ hours every time and we were going probably once a month for appointments and each time between $120 to $200 per night. We ended up spending thousands in accommodation by the end of it. This would have been great for us

  • These women would be paying for it somewhere but if it makes the process easier and less stressful for them then its definitely worth it.

  • That would be great. Depending on where you live, you could be traveling for a lot of hours otherwise.
The IVF process is very emotional, and hard too. I lived close to the infertility treatment clinic, so going back home wasn’t an issue.

  • They class it as complimentary but I bet it’s factored into the overall price.
