As previously reported, the investigation into the disappearance of little William Tyrrell has been centred on a fourth man of interest.  The Daily Telegraph now reports that this man has been convicted of possessing ‘child abuse material’.

The man, Derek Nichols, reportedly lived within walking distance of the toddler’s grandmother’s home in Kendall, where William was last seen in September 2014.  The newspaper also reports that Derek was issued with a suspended sentence of 18 months for possession of the child abuse material.  It has also been revealed that he is listed on the child protection register.

Derek, who now lives in Laurieton, reportedly denied having seen or watched the material connect to his suspended sentence. He has also has stated publicly that he does not know anyone who is linked to the William Tyrrell case.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Derek spoke of the material connected with his previous conviction:

“It was a lot of nonsense … I had never even looked at it,”

The man himself is active member of society, being a well-known musician who plays piano with the Conservatorium Mid North Coast – Port Macquarie Chapter choir.

He is not the only man who has been a person of interest in the case who has a history of offences against children.  Convicted paedophiles Tony Jones and Paul Brickford have also been official people of interest in the case.

Tradesman Bill Spedding has also been a confirmed person of interest.

William, clad in his treasured Spiderman costume, disappeared from the backyard of his grandmother’s home in Kendall on the NSW mid-north coast on the morning of September 12, 2014.

The Police investigation into his disappearance is ongoing.

  • I have these guys have been arrested before their names were released or they will go into hiding. Any that are suspected should have their passports confiscated if they have one. Hopefully William will be found soon and returned to his parents. It must be sheer physocological torture for his family and relatives. I have a gut feeling that it somebody he knows.

  • I personally find any missing children, child abuse cases or child death cases very sad. I recently have seen the call for missing children reports and pictures to be placed on the sides of milk cartons/juice cartons thus providing reminders of these children & hopefully the more their pictures are in the public eye someone somewhere might recognise something and say something. I just pray that there are answers soon as to what has happened to William.
