Hello!

Just after some helpful advice

Just wondering what everyone elses little 13 month old sleeps day and night. 1 nap or 2 naps? How long for and night time what time they usually go to sleep and wake up. Just after some insight. Also just wondering what other mums and dads do when it comes to their little ones sleep cycle. Trying to get my now 1 yr old used to sleeping off me for naps. Keeping her asleep while moving her off me is fine and she will stay asleep although around the 30 45 mins mark she wakes most of the time 45mins which at this age is a sleep cycle for her and then i have to quickly re settle and get her back to sleep and off me again. Is there any ways to help her connect cycles with out me. Something to help learn to if she is still tired to keep sleeping thru. Would a lulla doll help to make her feel like shes still on me? Any helpful advice be great. Thanks

  • I have a 14 month old and he only naps once a day. How long he sleeps for depends on where he is asleep. If we put him in our bed he’ll sleep for two hours or so. If we put him on his little fold out couch then 40l5 mins to an hour.
He usually sleeps between 8 to 10 hours at night.

  • My daughter decided to change to 1 nap a day (not something I was thinking we would be doing so young) but she only naps once a day and it is anywhere from 30mins to 1.5hrs. Far from ideal from everything I have read on sleep but she sleep fairly well at night. She is now only waking once or twice overnight (which is good compared to my son). Sleep is so difficult but persist, it gets easier. There are lots of sleep consultants around for great advice.

  • My 13 month old currently has 2 naps a day. Usually half an hour in the morning and 30min – 1 hour in the afternoon. He wakes 3-5 times a night to breastfeed so I’m currently struggling with trying to get him to sleep longer at night but he is really good at self settling and falling asleep In his cot by himself. Could you try laying down next to your daughter instead of having her on you? Maybe try transitioning into a single bed so you can leave her in her own bed when she falls to sleep. I transitioned my first son into a single bed when he was 13 months old and it was the best thing I did, he was terrible for waking a lot during the night and he would also fall asleep on me but it stopped when we moved him from the cot into a bed.

  • My 13 month old is switching between 2 and 1 day naps at the moment, and at night is all over the place! He had a rough start with colic all the time and he has rarely slept through the night, usually waking at least once but up to 3 times! I have 2 older kids and they have always thrived on routine, so that always helps.

  • 1 nap that went for 2 hours then 12 overnight. She associates her naps with you so when she wakes in between sleep cycle not being with you, hence why she is waking again and you are having to resettle. The aim is to teach her to sleep on her own so if she wakes after 45min, she puts herself back to sleep.

  • At that age my kids did only 1 nap a day which varied between 30 minutes and 2-3 hours. I tried to instill from an early age my kids to settle by themselves in their own bed. More importantly is it to look to the amount of sleep over a 24 hour period which is at that age around 12-14 hours a day. Day and night routines are helpful.
