Hello!

My son is almost 3 ( in June ) and we’ve been toilet training for around two months, he started off brilliantly even taking himself to the toilet but in the last couple of weeks he’s done a complete 180, he still enjoys wearing undies but is having accidents left right and center, he’s been doing wee’s and poo’s on the carpet in his bedroom and just this afternoon he was washing his hands at the kitchen sink and said to me “mum wee” and just wet himself on the spot. We recently had another baby boy ( 3 months ) and I feel like this could be a cry for attention but why the sudden change when he started off so well?? Please help me and my 3 year old toilet training problems, I’m not sure what’s the best avenue to take here. Kind regards, Amy.

  • Patience and not too much pressure is the key in my opinion and also refrain from any negative response on accidents. They’ll get there, i promise

  • it does seem like it may be an attention thing with the new baby. hopefully he will adjust soon.

  • It’s almost certainly a call for attention – so don’t make too much of it. Go back to pullups for a few weeks if you have to, but if you find other ways to give him attention, he’ll probably sort himself out in a few weeks.

  • Persistence and patience, they need to be rewarded when they do it right — I don’t mean they get something material every time but praise for success can be very uplifting and can encourage them to try harder!

  • Toilet training is a slow process. You just need to persist.

  • they tend to backslide at times but then become fine

  • I hope you found some good tips here

  • I hope you have found some helpful suggestions here.

  • When he had the accident while he was washing his hands, it could have been from the running water, it makes some people need to go! My kids sometimes have accidents when I start the shower.

  • Sometimes they go backwards for an attention seeking thing

  • My girl had setbacks after she was toilet trained. It can be very stressful but try to remain calm and patient and keep encouraging him to use the toilet.

  • Setbacks happen… He will get there soon

  • Its stressful but all you can really do is be patient and tell him no when he wees and poos on the floor, good luck :D

  • Sounds like you need to tell him he has to wear pull-ups and no more Undies until he starts using toilet again, get him the transformable potty unclips to 2 piece bottom half stool to get on toilet and top half clips on big toilet seat, worked for my son :P

  • How are you going with this??
