My baby is 5 months old. He started eating rice cereal 2 weeks ago, but is still primarily being breastfed. However he hasn’t done a poo since last Wednesday morning. I am a little bit worried. What should I do to help him?

  • It’s normal for them to get constipated, I eiuld keep on breadtfeeding and maybe Kay off rice cereal for a day or too. If worried take him to go and in the past I was recommended a honey like syrup to help with constipation fur my kids.

  • I heard anywhere from multiple times a day to once a week could be normal? I used prune juice and pear juice with my daughter. Sometimes it happened as she wasn’t drinking enough water and sometimes it seemed nothing helped and she was too young for any medicines. It’s frustrating when you can’t help them!

  • add some fruit in or put a bit of brown sugar in boiled water and give it to them in a bottle

  • Definitely go and see a doctor !

  • thank you ladies! he did poo after 8 days. and then i went to the nurse asking some tips, she told me to give him some boiled prune and the water, i tried that as well. recently my son just does a poo every second day. Every time he pushed so hard, poor bub~ he doesn’t look like being bothered by the POO business though.

  • I would take him to the doctor and see what they can recommend

  • If your son hasn’t pooped by now, I’d take him to see your doctor or early childhood nurse.

  • I switch the rice cereal from Farex to Nestle which is better for my baby. still have to give him lots of water after feed.

  • its normal for bf babies to go upto 10days without poop, but rice cerial can bind them up a bit

  • thank you very much. pear puree works~.

  • Rice cereal can cause problems…try some purée pear
