Hello!

My 6 month old has a little cold but that’s not phasing her. But when she breathes it’s like she is trying to suck heaps of air in. What could it be? Should I be worried? Doctors?

  • Some young babies don’t give a audible cough. This could be very serious. It could even be silent asthma if you don’t hear any wheezing at all.

  • She could be struggling to breathe, which isn’t unusual with a baby’s cold. Visit Dr to be sure

  • If you are distressed take her, your stress only makes thigns worse, trust your instincts

  • there are some good comments here

  • maybe go see a doctor

  • Any doubts at all with breathing, see a doctor.

  • Sounds like a blockage or something. Since it has to do with breathing you must consult a doctor!! Please…

  • Doesn’t sound normal. I’d be seeing the doctor.

  • how is it going now?

  • Did you take her to the doctors? Hope she is alright.

  • If you’re really worried take her to the doctor, even just to put your mind at rest. Chances are it’s just a reaction to being sick, but you’ll never forgive yourself if something was seriously wrong and you didn’t trust your instincts.

  • check her breathing and if she isnt taking 20 breaths a minute take her to the emergency department. she could have bronchiolitis

  • It definitely sounds like that she is struggling to breathe – Take her to the doctors asap! Its better to be a worried mum rather than an its too late one. Goodluck

  • I had asimilar problem but without the cold (blocked nose) with my new bubba – 3 weeks old struggling to suck air through his nose – stops breathing than having to force himself to take a breath with his mouth. It was horrible and scary to watch. We went to the hospital a couple of times in emergancy 1 time and walked out with nothing. No explanation, not resolved…Nothing… He was like this for 5 weeks. He is now 11 weeks old and I am thankful and so happy that he is fine now. But the first half of his life was scary for himself and for us.I just hope that they can find an explanation for you BecauseI know its darn SCARY to watch your baby go through this.

  • You sound worried, that is a good enough reason for the Doctor.
