Hello!

My 8 month old is still breastfeeding but eating everything her older siblings eat just about. She won’t take formula she just spits it out. She drinks water and juice out of cups and/or bottles…I want to know if its ok to give her a bottle of milk for bed?

  • Rather than giving milk you could give yogurt. When you give yogurt you could offer water instead of milk and introduce normal cows milk at 12 months of age.
Experts recommend that you introduce yogurt to your little one as a first food at around 6 months of age. Make sure you choose full-fat dairy products such as plain yogurt, Greek yogurt or fromage frais. Choose products with no added sugar.

  • Yea apparently after 12 months. But some doctors allow it. I would go for what your GP recommends to be sure :)

  • Yes I think it is. I thought 1 year old was the age for milk.

  • I think the recommendations are from 6 months in cooking but 12 months for a bottle feed.

  • I was going to answer but read your update :) great to hear you got your answer. Small amounts of milk added to foods and watered down milk are recommended from 6 months on and your little ones reaction was the same as mine! He loved it, watered down & also just as a drink, not a meal replacement be it solid or bottle :)

  • I think its too young. id persist with dfifferent types of formula

  • I’ve always understood that it’s not recommended before 12 months — I find it interesting that’ your healthcare professional wasn’t very fussed on it! My Naughties are 1 now but I’ll be asking our midwife that we see next time we visit her for future reference!

  • They say wait till 12 months old.

  • Good to see you found your answers and a solution that suited you.

  • i think they say wait till 12 months

  • there are some good comments here

  • im glad shes like it

  • i would wait till 12 months .. …

  • Just thought id update you all … I gave her a watered down milk bottle and she absolutely loved it but only as a drink not as a feed lol , i spoke with the health centre yesterday and told her this and she laughed and said shes got me wrapped around her finger lol … she was not concerned about her having milk :-)

  • When I had my ds, my MCN advised NOT to feed an infant under 12 months cows milk. They don’t need it and their tummies aren’t able to digest and break down the proteins before then.
