  • An activity doing something sensory. Do you have a communication method to ask what they would like to do?

  • Take to beach take their shoes off to feel the sand wet and dry walk along the water, feel the sand in their hands make a hole with their hands. I know they like going on swings as I used to look after a deaf and blind boy and he used to like clapping. Banging a tin to feel it vibrating it is not easy I know you know what they like doing just putting stones in a container to feel the vibration then they can do it.

  • Oh what a difficult problem to solve. It must be so frustrating for you both. I hope you’ve found some suitable activities

  • Do you have NDIS funding for your teenager ? Any psycho motor or occupational (sensory) therapies and activities would be good.

  • Slime activity with hands.
    Finger painting.
A picnic. Lying on a rug, the grass under a blanket and wind is sensory.
Taste testing. A marshmallow, a piece of cheese, a pice of red capsicum…. it’s texture, differences.
A different animal to visit, like a baby goat or a puppy, a kitten.

  • Schools and similar organisations may also be able to assist with ideas.

  • Linking in with local organisations and services would be a good idea – they may be able to support with ideas.

  • Wow, such a difficult situation! I would be googling places in your area that deal with blind deaf kids. If you have no luck online, maybe a visit to your GP for some suggestions.
