  • I know how you feel as I’ve always been on the shy side. I’ve managed to find a handful of people I connect with and like spending time with. It took many years though

  • Yes it can be hard, especially when you feel shy and insecure. To join a group or become a volunteer can be indeed a good way to make friends. When you have school going kids the pick up and drop of times can also be great moments to start a chat with other mums. When I did is invite some kids to play with my kids and invite the mums along for a cuppa. On a certain point I invited weekly 8 mums with their kids (which were 20+) and we had great times !

  • It is good reading the comments and interest to this!

  • ah making friends is difficult. If you have children about to enter pre-primary it makes it so much easier as you can meet other mums starting school as well.
I was lucky and moved to an awesome area where I got chatting to a couple of neighbours and eventually met the rest of them and they have regular get togethers (and helps the kids all go to school together)
    Other options:
Online groups, play groups with your kids, sports for older kids, take up an activity for yourself such as a sport, book club, aerobics classes etc

  • Join a group doing things you are interested in! Art,Aquarobic, yoga or classes is a good way to start. Or if you like doing craft lots of groups out there to try. Volunteering one day a week doing something you like.Lots of groups out there some for free, I go to meditation and love it you see, afterwards we have coffee and chat similar minded company. Look in your local paper usually a list of activities available near you. all the best in your quest,

  • I know how u feel ,making friends is hard .As previously suggested join a group .

  • Online!

  • I find making new friends really really hard. One thing that I’m considering doing is volunteering at a local nursing home.

  • Join mother’s group or local community.

  • one step at a time

  • Become involved in your community! Whether that be through volunteering, or finding groups that share your passions and interests. It’s always much easier to talk to people who have similar interests than a random stranger. Good luck!

  • Making friends is difficult once you are older and out of school. Join a few classes or go out with people from the workplace. You’ll meet more people and find the friends you want.

  • i would love to know too :)

  • If you have children or not you can go and enquire with your local schools P&C. they organise loads of cool things for the kids and community and is a great way to meet mothers and dads. I have just relocated and had to start again. I am doing lots of group activities and I have meet so many lovely people and now have a wonderful group of friends. Good luck.

  • Building up your self confidence is what you should concentrate on first.
