Hello!

My 12 month old still wakes up roughly 3 times a night to breastfeed. I know it’s purely from habit, he gets plenty during the day (both breast milk and solids) and is a really healthy weight. I still feed him to sleep, and if he doesn’t get boob during the night wakings he quickly becomes hysterical and will be inconsolable until I give in. I am 100% opposed to cry it out methods, to each their own but not for me. Any other suggestions? Has anyone tried the book “no cry sleep solutions” or similar? How did you get on? I’m very keen to nip this in the bud, but happy to do it gradually and as gently as possible. I can’t even consider having a second child while I’m still getting such broken sleep. Positive help only please. Thanks in advance. Do you have any advice on reducing night feeds?

  • Keep your baby warm and secure in her crib so that she tries to sleep through… doesnt she like to take a formula bottle at night ?

  • I think its a gradual process!

  • How is she going now?

  • i tried giving my 8 month bub solids before bed but she still wakes up 3-4 times a night to feed. She is not hungry i know. I have tried letting her cry out at night but just couldn’t anymore so i went back to feeding her. I am just hoping as time passes she would stop getting up so much but right now i feel like i have tried all methods..

  • how did you go? :)

  • Hope you found some useful advice below.

  • Maybe some more solids so that he feels fuller and just sleeps through. Or you could express so that hubby could get up and do one of the feeds and it would also help to break the cycle.

  • How did you end up reducing the night feeds?

  • Hope you went well :)

  • It is really hard to break the habit. I could never sleep during the day, so it was really hard and draining getting up several times a night to feed them.

  • I hope you found advice on reducing night feeds

  • Is there someone else who could go in & settle him? Someone without boob?

  • I’m going to have to read no cries now. I would have said he Eli grow out if it and try not to touch him etc. but my two year old still wakes

  • Hope you find the answers you’re looking for, there’s lots of great suggestions here.

  • My 1 year old has just recently done the same thing. At first I was just holding her to get her back to sleep, then I was just putting her dummy back inane she has been going back to sleep.
I’ve had really bad nipple problems start, don’t know why, so I am now on day four of not breast feeding, giving formula instead, not something I wanted to do by choice, but having infected nipples meant I have to.
I know you may not want formula recommended, but for the last four nights, my 12 month old has slept through, I am loving sleeping the night, it’s been over 12 months, so for me it’s bliss.
Good luck with your little man xx
