Hello!

I have just started a new online business specialising in fun and unique products for children. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to attract customers to my website? I only have a small budget so I’m looking for free/cheap advertising and promotion. I am currently using Facebook and Twitter and have included my listing on free directories. Any other suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

  • Maybe offering potential customers a discount to get them to try your products, or offering free shipping.

  • Instagram is great to do small buisnesses. Use like a Facebook page posts your products, run comps etc. I follow and buy from so many shops that use instagram to promote their brands.

  • Have you tried gumtree?

  • maybe don’t spam social media. get the word out there and ask ppl to share it, but like anything, too much is not good, you don’t want ppl to be annoyed by hearing about the same spiel over and over again. they will tune you out and then not take notice, until they get angry and unfollow you. try to work on your engagement with potential followers , friends, fans and customer. really work on gaining that loyalty

  • If you have a school or kinder newsletter, it’s often possible to place a small ad for a modest fee – and it’s a great way to get in front of lots of eyeballs in the target demographic!

  • There are numerous local businesses near me that write things on Facebook such as: **Thursdays giveaway** Go to our website http://www.xxxxxx@xxxxx.com.au & tell us which item is your favourite, write your answer in the comments on this Facebook post. Entries close 11pm on xx/October. Winner will be announced on xx/october.

  • You just have to spam the sweet goodness out of social media, also try starting a blog and work on keywords to increase your Google search results!

  • You may not be able to afford it, but competitions will often draw me to look at a new website (even if I don’t enter the competition).

  • Make it simple and easy to navigate, make it fun to look at , and not too wordy

  • I find a lot of new websites through Facebook so keep using that to your advantage. Photos and links to products on your website. Maybe get yourself into an auction or competition with other similar businesses – that seems to be a popular way to ‘spread the word’ and get more followers! Good luck!

  • All the best with your business, sounds like you pretty much have it covered.

  • host comps on twitter like this
“RT & FOLLOW AND WHEN I GET 500 FOLLOWERS I WILL DRAW THE WINNER OF THE COMP” you could always ask that they sign up to your website. or get them to rt an ad for a chance to win

i am a twitter expert (self proclaimed lol) and i think that you can make social media work for you! Even a $15 prize and bonus code for $10 off an order really encourages the winner to check you out & they will rt, fav & reply.

Have convos on social media showing your fun & positive personality and their followers will see this and contribute & follow

Be active so even just a quick “hope you are having a great day” is helpful in showing that you have checked your acc and are available to them

If you want to run a giveaway from your website, promote on social media and ask the acc’s that solely promote comps, to rt or share your comp. it’s free and they are happy to help you.

also look up Rafflecopter because you can get people to like, share, follow, rt, pin and whatever else you like for an entry into your comp. google “hip little one” and check out their use of rafflecopter in their giveaways

Ask the giveaway winners to write a review on your product

Hope these help and congrats for having the courage to start a business

  • whats the web site?

  • Can you post us the site to go to, I’m sure a lot of Mums here would be interested to browse it.

  • I like the idea of a competition – but I also think that is a little risky as often people just like it or come for the competition and don’t check it out. But I’m sure there will be plenty who check it out whilst there – so probably worth the risk (if you have a prize that’s awesome but doesn’t cost too much for you)
