I have just started a new online business specialising in fun and unique products for children. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to attract customers to my website? I only have a small budget so I’m looking for free/cheap advertising and promotion. I am currently using Facebook and Twitter and have included my listing on free directories. Any other suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

  • I would look at solution such as including the website address in your email signature and on any material leaving your desk. If you have the cash a Search Engine Optimiser, can help get you to the top of Google results.

  • Local notice boards? Pamphlets at health center waiting rooms?

  • Great ideas and tips for starters… being a competition lover, the idea about running a comp is spot on.

  • Everyone looks at Instagram so maybe try that one and see how it goes good luck

  • Flyers at play cafes, kids & baby markets, child maternal health centres & of course Facebook- run a competition.

  • I would go around to all your local play groups etc…. and get a flyer out, or even walk the streets, this is cheap and get some some exercise. Also facebook and instragram and free and fun, get out there and enjoy it!

  • instagram? also combining with other businesses in comps and give-aways on facebook and instagram is a sure way to boost your followers as most comp entry requirements are to like all sponsers pages!

  • Looks like there are a few ideas to get you started…

  • There are a few companies that help do cheap edms which could help you.. Also word of mouth is your greatest assest, get people to share your site and product

  • Have a facebook competition where people can enter by liking your page and sharing the competition post. Draw a winner when you have X amount of shares or X number of page likers.

  • Best thing to boost numbers is running a competition on Facebook. Ask people to share and comment. This helps spread your name and get extra likes. You could run the comp also on your website, this would bring in clients to your site direct.
If you do this in a monthly basis, you will slowly but surely see your page grow. If what you are doing is a little unique, get in touch with your local newspaper. Tell them what it is you are doing that makes you stand out from the rest – the better it is, the more likely they are to run it. Maybe they can collaborate – run a comp on their Facebook page if they already have bigger likes??

  • Maybe see if local child care centres or primary schools have notice boards where they would let you post a flyer.
