Hello!

I’ve made an effort to give up cigarettes, but now find the smell in our home isn’t good. I’ve been wiping walls, air fresheners are not enough. Any ideas please?

  • Wiping walls is a good start. I would be washing curtains too. Do you have covers on your lounge suite? Wash them too. A goid carpet clean will help. I have a steam cleaner, great for the lounge suite and carpets. It will probably take a few goes to eliminate the smell. Well done for quitting the fags, it’s not easy to do. Also, now you’re a non smoker, your home will be even more intolerable

  • Great effort for stopping with smoking by the way, well done you !!

  • Yes I agree with mom71809 too. I would add as suggestion to clean with diluted Eucalyptus oil. In some cases walls need repainting.

  • You would also need to wash curtains, clean carpets and clean your furniture. Cigarette smoke gets into everything

  • MoM71809 has some great suggestions. I would add some indoor plants/herbs to your home.

  • bicarb soda absorbs smell, air out your house as much as you can, wash everything you can – curtains, walls etc, floors can be washed with diluted white vinegar, put things in the sun to air during the day. Best of luck as as they say never give up giving up!~

  • Clean everything, curtains,Carpets and walls, ceilings and couches etc, anything material will have the smell in and if you do need to smoke do it outside. its so yukky inside because its so tough to get rid of it.
    Good luck

  • sugar soap the walls – this stuff is cleaning gold!

  • Way to go!! Me too! Lots of fresh air and open windows, I know it’s cold but put a jumper on , haha, oh & I found it really clung to fabric, wash all fabrics that you can and line dry.
Yay you! How great is it?,

  • Sugar soap your walls and try using different oils like tea tree, eucalyptus or lavendar

  • I would do a deep clean in my whole house… Carpet cleaning the lot

    Congrats on kicking the habit

  • Wash everything you can and hang it in the sun, sugar soap the walls, candles etc will onky mask the smell I’d suggest bicarb and things that absorb the smell. Leave all the windows doors ooen as much as you can – maybe you might want to paint/recarpet ( your savkng a lot of money nlw your smoke free)

  • the glade plug ins in vanilla and also a nice smelling incense, burn them regularly around the house and it will help eliminate the walls. You will need your carpets, furniture and curtains cleaned as well. good luck :-)

  • congrats well done………..I’ve been smoke free for just over 2 years now (after 32 years)
I found the best way to start getting rid of the smell was to wash all the curtains, bedding, any clothing like coats, jumpers that have just been put back in the wardrobe, washing walls and leaving doors open for fresh air, Also don’t forget things like air con filters, fan filters etc, as it’s the little things that we forget that can help heaps. I now have a air fresh pump that goes off every 20 mins or so and it’s so much better than that stinky old smoke……………yaaaaaah us for quitting………..cheers
    Deb

  • Also; lots of fresh air! :)
