Hello!

I want to make an extra special handmade gift for my cousin who will be moving into her first home next year. She’s always making and giving my daughter beautiful things so I’d love to be able to make something special for her too, trouble is, I can’t decide what to do haha My daughter and I are going to paint her a picture to hang on her wall but I would still like to make her something just from me too. Any suggestions would be super awesome! Thanks :)

  • DIY low tox cleaning products.
Bosistos have some great and simple to make toilet fizzies and dishwashing tablets!

  • Upcycle a piece of furniture

  • Maybe a welcome board for by the door would make a nice handmade gift ? Also hand decorated garden pots can be lovely to give ! And you can decorate a serving tray as well. I don’t know if you do knitting, crochet, patch work or embrodery ? otherwise a nice handmade pillow can be lovely too.

  • You could buy some artificial (silk) flowers and glue them on to a wreath to make a special decoration in a particular theme. You can also get artificial flowers (lily, hydrangea, gerber, etc) designed to sit in a vase with water – they never fade or die. They are called water-stems.

  • It may be too late for this answer, but we did a handmade Christmas and had some awesome presents turn up. My sister made a tote bag out of oilcloth and filled it with tea, coffee and chocolates – was amazing and very useful. There was also homemade bath bombs, bath salts and make up remover (my other sister googled these recipes). Not sure if you have access to wood working tools, but my brother made a handmade scrabble and Jenga set out of off cut pieces of wood. Good luck!

  • a tip anyway is to get the kids to print or draw on the paper that you can wrap the gifts in.

  • Thanks for all your suggestions ladies!

  • I always like to give photo frames with the person l am giving with a family/friend member!

  • Oh yes, my sister in law used to make mini pot plants for friends , she kept repotting and transferring into existing plants to new pots .

  • A few years ago I learnt through Utube the basics of crotcheting . Next minute I made pom poms and scarfs for everyone . It actually turned out good , but you need to do it a few times. Ask yourself what you are crafty at ? A friend of mine one year made a card with a personalised photo of her with her family and it was very touching . She never made it again because she said it was a lot of work . A handmade picture frame is nice, just make sure the frame is sturdy as there is a lot of stores selling cheap frames which to me looks cheap and nasty .

  • If she has a garden or patio, you could mosaic a terracotta pot and plant it out with one of her favourite plants or herbs? Depending on how crafty you are, a home made cushion or quilt could be nice too.
