Hello!

I have a feeling this summer is going to be a hot one & I’m looking for ways to save on electricity costs so I can use the air con with a little less guilt.  It’s simply too hot to not turn it on this year!

  • It so hard to keep costs down when it gets so hot,l use curtains and keeping the out-door blinds down early in the day!

  • I pretty much keep all of my roller shutters closed this way the heat doesn’t come through the windows. I know it’s actually more money to spend although it really does save you putting on your air conditioner a lot of the time. Could it be an option for you to install some? I think there are payment plans too.

  • Yes it has been hot this year and some days are just needed. My parents did not have aircon in their unit for years and relied on electrical fans . I think the best way to save electricity is not to have too many lights on in the evening ( maybe no more than 2 on at a time ) . Also have EITHER the TV or radio on in the household and not both at the same time . I think TV and lights uses the most power so cut back that and see how you go .

  • i switch things off at the wall overnight and i check my 5 childrens rooms regularily during the day and switch off their lights and fans if their not in the rooms… i also run the air conditioner at 25 degrees and keep all unnecessary rooms closed (who needs a cold loo?)

  • well it is the last day of summer now and come winter, if you don’t use heaters, you will recoup the summer expense lol

  • Tips on saving electricity, water and gas are so useful after Christmas.

  • Good question; mom90758 are the solar panels expensive?

  • Install solar panels. It’s expensive at the beginning, but I’ve really cut my expenses by half since I installed them.

  • They say that turning it on early in the day when you know it’s going to be hot is better than turning it on when the house is already hot.
Also 23 degrees is the best temperature for electricity consumption

  • It’s certainly hard to keep cost down when it gets as hot as it does and now being told it will be even hotter this summer is scary!
I would suggest to turn off all power points when not in use, Try do activities that doesnt include power
keeping the house dark and using pedestal fans
