  • What?! You want a cheap holiday but won’t consider camping?! What is wrong with you??? Lol. Kids love camping you know

  • Also; often newsletters from parks have specials and savings. May be worth requesting newsletters? We have saved money by doing this. Good Luck with your planning! :)

  • Cabins in holiday parks are always another cheap alternative of accommodation.

  • Travel Auction Website has some great holidays. Check fine print because some can’t be taken during School Holidays. I just picked up a 3 day holiday on the Yorke Penninsula for $250 instead of $460. Try websites like Wotif, Last Minute that have last minute rooms. Websites like Cudo, Scoopon have travel deals and there are great Cabins in Caravan Parks.

  • Look into the Youth Hostel network – some have family rooms, some are relatively upmarket, they’re often near interesting or central places – and they’re not too expensive.

  • Have a look at hiring a house in an area that’s not particularly crowded and in ‘off-season’ ie Phillip Island/Great OCean Road during winter.
Also, hiring during the week only is also very helpful in getting a cheaper rate.
Look at joining some of the holiday parks (ie Big4, FamilyParks etc) loyalty programs & going from there. Again, look at going on holidays when it’s not school holidays for cheaper rates.
Another thing you could do is look at advertising on Gumtree & the houses they have available to house & pet sit – you’ll find yourself going somewhere you’ve never heard of & looking after animals you never thought you’d get the chance to.
    Good luck!!

  • We did the Great Ocean Rd trip & managed to find reasonable accommodation at each stop over by asking for their best price.

  • Caravan parks are great, especially big 4! They have cabins to hire and the kids love the playgrounds and other activities they have.

  • I’m originally from Mt Beauty. There is a gorgeous little holiday park on the river. You can camp, but they also have cabins you can rent. It is a gorgeous spot for the whole family…quality little town with everything you need, but far enough away from the world.

  • What about hiring a holiday house near the beach or river, plus at Big 4 caravan parks they hire cabins which are really good and not to badly priced either.

  • Hi. Did you read the post I wrote about planning a cheap holiday? It has some tips in there that should help you enjoy a cheap holiday (and I am with you – I’m not into camping either. Amanda https://mouthsofmums.com.au/10-tips-to-plan-a-cheap-holiday/
