Hello!

I have no excuses for the house being messy. Our yard needs weeding and trimming badly, I’m being disorganised, joined the gym to lose weight and get motivated, I have 2 young kids, a job that I don’t have to be there all the time but yet my dinner planning is shocking. How can you get motivated and organised, what time is best to get up in the morning and get things going? I get up at 7.30am and go to bed around 9-10pm. I have been going to the gym 3/4 days a week but when I go to the gym, I feel that I’m unable to complete my day task. My weight is my major goal but I do have things that needs to be done. How can I squeeze everything in? How do you ladies make life a little easier?

  • Prioritizing important jobs first and give yourself a time limit to get things done. Good luck with your health goals, as its very important to feel healthy and fit.

  • Everybody works differently and everybody’s situation is different. Plan on doing one major job (or half of) each day. Once the big things are done you feel more motivated to do others.

  • That is a good question . I used to ask myself the same thing , how do you do everything . I found out spreading your time out is better than doing hundreds of tasks in one day . My sister in law did the same thing and nearly collapsed from exhaustion , Then found out she was low in this and that so she neglected herself . This can happen especially when the kids are small because they are demanding and want everything now . When you have a break , write down a list of things you need to do and spread them through the week . I have been using those calendars with the big squares for years and I am lost without it . I go by schedules and write things ahead of time and if its very important I highlight it . it only costs $2 from a bargains store and I love it .

  • Sit down and plan what you need to do for the week. Maybe try online shopping and have your groceries delivered. Meal plan and freeze so you don’t spend all your time cooking in the kitchen. When you’re at the gym, you could write a to do list of things (eg. when you’re on the exercise bike). I think it’s hard to balance things at times and sometimes the wheels fall off. I hope you find something that will help!

  • routine love!!! once a week do a good clean of the house and every day keep on top of the kitchen, loungeroom etc, i have heard of the people who cook the next month’s worth of meals in one day. just make up huge batches and freeze it and not cook the rest of the time lol. get the kids to start helping and be responsible for the mess that they make. they can do little things like pick up toys and that helps a lot!

  • I’ve been going through similar issues and I have 3 kids. 2 are at least at school. I’ve been slowly trying to do more each day to get things done. I’m getting there but still have a way to go. I try to reflect on what I do get done not what I don’t and try to look at each thing to do one at a time so it doesn’t seem so overwhelming. Good luck to you .

  • Also, list your goals and steps to achieve getting things done – it really does help with getting things done on the day.

  • Use a daily planner and make lists, it does help to plan your day. Tackle all of the jobs and tick them off.

  • I wake up between 5 and 5:30 every day. That helps me really getting things done. I prepare lunchboxes for my daughter and my husband, breakfast, put on the washing machine, walk the dog. I do it since so long that is has just become an habit.
I always plan what to cook for at least 2-3 days. I don’t enjoy that much gardening but, like said before, once I start I actually enjoy working there.
I don’t let things accumulate. I do regular washing machines and ironing. I try to do the same with post, emails, communities and so on. I get stressed if I am left too much behind.
I would tell you to start with one area of your life that you want to improve. Seeing the results will motivate you in improving with other areas too. :-)

  • Making lists really heaps as does assigning one task per day. Things can get pretty tough. You could try getting paid help every now and again, just to get things back in order so you can manage more easily.

  • I think writing out a schedule for the day might help. Also I find that thinking about doing something is harder than actually doing it. For example, I don’t enjoy gardening, but once I get into it I get a lot done and it feels satisfying to see a tidy yard. As for dinner, I have a weekly dinner plan – eg. Monday is either red meat or beans, Tuesday is always pasta night, Wednesday is always chicken etc. On a Tuesday night, I’ll make pasta but each week I’ll vary it by making bolognaise one week, mushroom sauce next week etc. Hope this helps.

  • Oh my god, I could have written this question! I am the same. I even started writing a list of things that need doing and I was supposed to tick things off when I did them. The list is slowly growing, but nothing has been ticked off it.
