Hello!

Are cabbage leaves still used to relieve engorged breasts from Breastfeeding?
This was quite popular years ago and gave breastfeeding mums considerable relief from very uncomfortable engorged breasts. I was just wondering if this is still practised today?

  • Yes most definitely is still a good practice

  • Its still a recommendation but the wet nappy in the freezer worked great for me.

  • In this article on Kellymom.com cabbage leaves are still mentioned as option

  • Yes they are !

  • It’s a very effective and easy form of relief.

  • I used this method and it worked for me.

  • I read this in lots of sites when I had problems with breastfeeding, however I didn’t ended up giving it a go.

  • Absolutely!
Was the only thing that gave me relief.
Mind you I probably looked a bit strange walking around with cabbage leaves hanging out of my shirt but comfort first!
I tried every other suggestion & only the cabbage leaves worked.

  • I have used it. And have to say I was very surprised at the immediate relief it gave…..while the leaf was cold. Once it hit warm, and it doesn’t take long to warm up, the relief soon wears off. Give it a go, you might be surprised

  • Yes definitely. Gives breastfeeding mum that much needed relief!

  • yes people still do. it is recommended in baby books lol

  • Yes! Great natural way to get some relief!

  • I am so pleased your doctor recommended this for you Tam Watters. Good to know I am giving ideas that are on the right track so to speak.

  • Yes, my dr recommended it just last week for mastitis

  • sO TRUE June 11. I DONT THINK I WOULD FREEZE THEM UNLESS YOU PUT A THIN LAYER OF FABRIS=C SUCH AS COTTON BETWEEN THE CABBAGE LEAVES AND THE BREAST . OOPS sorry about the capitals . using a thin layer of cotton would minimize the burning. Bleeding nipples is a horrible thing to experience. I WAS breast FEEDING BUB NO 3 and bubs bit me one day during a feed and I swear it felt like I was cut with a pair of scissors . NOT NICE AT ALL! LOL!!!
