Hello!

I have heard a few conflicting things about oats in the diet lately and I would love to know your opinions on this.

  • I think they are fine, like everything eat in moderation.

  • Plain oats should be fine without adding any processed sugar.

  • I think that if you buy plain oats that they’re better than the prepackaged and flavoured oats (I’m guessing that they might have extra sugars in them). But overall, I believe that oats are a great, low gi food for everyone. My toddler loves them!

  • Hi Unicorn. Thanks for your reply. I buy the raw rolled oats and put a bit of good old normal milk on them and a sprinkling of stevia and eat them straight as they are or on a cold day I pop them in the microwave for 1min 20 secs. My micro is an 1100 watter!

  • Do you mean porridge or just in general. With porridge oats I think it depends on whether they are the flavoured kind or natural and also how you cook them. Even the flavoured kind would have to be better for you than cereal.
If you heard they are considered bad because of the whole Paleo thing then I think I would ignore it.

  • I agree with you Jack! You cant beat a nice bowl of rolled oats with some hot milk and a weeny sprinkling of raw sugar [or if I am being good a sprinkling of stevia] on a bitterly cold day for lunch would you believe and you do not get hungry all day!

  • I think oats are good. At least better than sugary cereal.

  • Oats are good fibre it is true I use them to make my muesli too
good start to the day, filling and nutritious in every way
if in a hurry you can quick brands buy, microwaved with milk ready in a twinkle of an eye

  • I think they are healthy.

  • I believe oats are very healthy as they contain no artificial flavours or colourings. Great to make Anzac biscuits with & porridge.

  • Oats are healthy and great for your digestive system as long as you don’t have an intolerance. I have read that raw oats can be difficult for the stomach to process properly so just make sure that they’re either cooked or soaked overnight.

  • personly i love oats, especially in winter for breaky, they are wholesome, give you loads of energy, very filling, and has nothing added to them as long as you get the natural one and not that sachat one with all the added things that aren’t good for you.

  • I agree with you completely busy little bee! I have them uncooked with a slight sprinklinf of stevia and a little milk. I love them!

  • Plain unprocessed oars are very healthy
But it’s how you cool them that can make the difference.
If you add a lot of butter and suger /salt

    Then they can become unhealthy

But oats help the digestive system and helps lower colestrol
And helps with your GI levels throughout the day

  • They are healthy but are high in calories so best in moderation. There are a lot more unhealthy choices in comparison to oats.
