Hello!

We normally have BBQ breakfast with prawns served up. This year my grand child will be joining us and was wondering how would i prepare her a prawn or two for her. She has front teeth about 6-8 of them. Would breaking it up or cooking something with the prawn in it?

  • Yeah, should be fine as long as strict hygiene regulations when cooking are followed. They actually recomnend now that you give kids seafood and peanuts at a younger age to avoid allergies

  • Just make sure they’re fresh, cooked through and cleaned thouroughly to avoid any lurgies. Seafood is part of an all round healthy diet

  • Even I have given my LO at the same age. He was fine. It has to be cooked well.

  • How did she go with your BBQ breakfast and the prawns? Would love to know what happened! I saw you said it might go thru her nappy so does that mean she tried some? Good on her if she did – adventurous eater!

  • i think that it is fine if there is no allergy :)

  • Thank you for the answers so far, my DIL is now saying she is worried about finding bit in the nappy. To me it is good in a way as it went through and main thing is to enjoy the taste.

  • Children that age can generally cope with a prawn so long as it is peeled – it’s a great age to introduce children to everything new and different – just be prepared she may not like the texture at first, so spit it out. Getting her to sit still throughout all the courses is another whole new problem area – but if there is a lot going on around her, why wouldn’t she just sit there and watch and eat whatever she feels like that is in front of her?

  • I gave prawns to my son around that age and he was fine. They just really need to be cooked well and make sure his not allergic to them.

  • Thank you for the answers so far, yes there will be other foods there plus her own food as a back up. Of course the prawns would be peeled, they are peeled for the cats and she is more important then them.
The real test will be for her eating her Gr Nonna’s Christmas lunch. Can she really sit there for that long with all the courses, her father learnt at least she is going to grow up with that.

  • They wont hurt her just make sure they are peeled

  • They won’t hurt her (if not allergic)?but don’t be surprised is she she doesnt like them! Having said that, it’s a great age for introducing new flavours and textures.

  • Yep it fine for them to eat as long as the in no shell even have the tail removed off the one for them and there yucky bits have been removed from the inside of them. And fully cooked through. But incase they dont like it im sure you might have a little something else for them. My kids have loved prawns from a young age and think its a real treat when they get them.

  • as long as it is cooked, peeled and cool it should be fine, no need to do anything fancy or chop it up. If she can grab it and hold it herself she can feed herself baby led weaning style :-)
