This question reminded me of when I was a kid in primary school and we were given a piece of paper and taught to folder it up (like an accordion) then the teach would staple one end or use sticky tape and we would expand the paper into a paper fan we could use. Basic but fun, you could decorate the paper before foldeing.

Water painting or using the bath crayons

Freeze some plastic dinosaurs in large containers of water. Give them a small hammer and let them go for it! My grandsons love this activity.

Water play, of course, though that’s impermanent and may be more messy than you want. Outdoor chalks can be good.

I think everything is messy when you have a 3 year old. Colouring in is the only thing I can think of that’s not messy.

Bath toys and crayons so they can enjoy them in a cool bath.

At that age the kid wont be occupied long by anything in particular. Perhaps a trip to the library. There is often space there to play, sit on cushions, read etc. and maybe an organized craft activity or two. And it’s air conditioned! But if at home and too far from library then maybe good old fashioned construction toys, blocks, even lego / duplo allow movement and creativity, without the mess of other craft materials that can permanently damage fabrics and carpets.

Something in the bath using water! Maybe cold spaghetti in a bath for sensory play

My best tip to beat the boredom is bubbles! Get some bubble bath, put it in a large tub or container and get an old coat hanger or some string and make bubbles. So much fun to do inside or outside. If you do it outside is also helps to keep everyone cool!

playdough is always a winner or making cloud dough

Maybe savage hunt or create something out of recycling boxes…

Whiteboard markers and a shallow, cool bath. Let them draw all over the wall tiles and race to see who can clean the fastest.
