Hello!

At what age did you start to give your child chewing gum? Our doctor advised that chewing will help with our daughters ear problems. Our daughter is 6 years old.

  • I think 6yr old is quite young to give chewing gum, but probably depends on the child.
I give my eldest 3 (15, 14 and 9yr old) often a packet of chewing gum in their lunchbox since some years. But stopped doing it by my now 9yr old. She sticks the chewing gum any where and everywhere and leaves it in her clothing so it ends up in the washing machine. Also when I give her a packet it’s gone within a hour while my eldest 2 spread it out over a week. So until my 9yr old can deal with it properly she won’t get chewing gum anymore.

  • I have never heard this advice before. You might want to seek a second opinion as it sounds weird (and I have a hearing impaired son).

  • I have a 6yr old & haven’t given him any as I know he’ll just swallow it

  • up to you really. i have let my oldest have it and she started falling asleep with it lol. make sure that they don’t do that!

  • I would say 5 yo would be a good age,you want your child old enough not to swallow the chewy.
