Hello!

Just wondering what are the best shoes to put my newly walking 1 year old in?
I know they’re better off in bare feet for as long as possible, but she need’s shoes for child care when they go outside.
Is it best to have sock-like shoes or gummy soles?
Also, good places to buy these shoes for cheap prices (online or in store) would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks Mummies

  • I bought some adorable shoes for my children from Myer you pay a little more for them but they have lasted a while

  • I would just get a nice light pair so it’s not to difficult for them to pick up their feet to walk. And get the ones with sticky, rubbery soles so they don’t slip on floors so much

  • We used to love Target, Kmart, Payless etc as kids grow out so quickly and don’t want to be replacing them in six months time .

  • When outside you need a sturdy shoe for support & structure.
I would speak with a sales person in your local shoe store for advice on what is best.
We personally use Nike runners from Sports Power, the staff have always been wonderful & patient & have gone above & beyond for us each time we’ve been there.

  • I got my kids fitted for soled runners when they started walking, and for childcare as they play outside, as it protects their feet and supports them too. When inside we go barefoot.

  • I was recommended to provide soft soles until they are confidently walking – they need to feel the ground beneath them. This recommendation came from a friend married to a podiatrist. Once confidently walking they can progress to hard soles. Sox and shoes were the best for this as they fit the shoe so you know you’re getting the right size/style

  • Dunlop volleys they are flat & have the best sole

  • My daughter loved the dunlop volley ones from Target, then we moved into the Target Brand velcro joggers, great value and she loves them.

  • Try Big W and Target for relatively inexpensive shoes – in my opinion they don’t need to be top quality as they get outgrown or wrecked really quickly.

  • I loved Dunlop volleys, the soles are soft

  • gummy shoes and target have them

  • anything that is super flexible is best. a lot of my mum friends rave about the leather shoes with leather soles, but I didn’t like them as they didn’t “grip” enough. for my girls I found a pair in big w that had proper rubber patches on the sole that were super flexible. I have been searching for some for my almost walking son too, but apart from a pair of volleys in big w that were too small, I haven’t found anything suitable yet.

when I had my first someone bought my daughter a pair of shoes from http://www.blueskykidsland.com.au/index.php/ and they are the BEST shoes, but pretty pricey when you factor in shipping.

  • Make sure they fit well. You also need check them to make sure they haven’t grown! They just suddenly don’t fit!

  • I put mine in soft sole shoes – the one that are like cloth but not socks… But once I put him in hard soles I just made sure they were super flexible and not overly heavy… Some baby shoes are ridiculously heavy for some reason!

  • As long as they fit well and seem comfortable it doesn’t matter, also look at salvo stores as often children are brought lots of shoes they never wear.
