Hello!

I am thinking of having a hungry caterpillar themed party for my boys 1st birthday. Does anyone have any tips or ideas I could include for this special day?

  • We had a peppa pig theme for my daughters first birthday, we also had a naming day at the same party.

  • Has he turned one yet? I had a ladybird theme for my daughter but found I had to turn it into a garden theme as there wasn’t a lot around. You could expland on the caterpillar themes and incorporate garden items too – mini pot plants, watering cans etc we had these on tables with lollies and lollypops in them. Could also use them as party favours

  • My sister did a Very Hungry Caterpillar theme for my nephew’s first birthday. It was just for immediate family so it was very small. The cake was actually several cupcakes in the shape of the caterpillar. I think she downloaded some printables for cupcake wrappers. She bought some plain party hats from a cheap $2 dollar store and glued the printables onto them. Then there were streamers and balloons.

  • There are lots of free Hungry Caterpillar printables to be found on the internet at the moment that can make for fun party activities! You can also imitate all or most of the foods in the stories as your party food and use cupcakes to form a caterpillar for the cake.

  • My niece did The Hungry Caterpillar theme for her son’s combined 1st & 2nd birthday & the green iced cupcakes in the shape of the caterpillar were divine! She also had a lolly selection were kids could help themselves. Cheese & biccies on all the tables & BBQ snags & salads. Every child had fun with a hired jumping castle.

  • We made a ‘caterpillar’ birthday cake using muffins, Super easy.
    Good luck!

  • That is such a great theme for a little ones party and so many commercial products around also. Food wise I would use the story to help you. You could make fruit salad cups using the fruits from the story.
You could have a big platter of triangle watermelon slices and use a little circle cutter to cut a hole from them the little holds could go in the fruit salad.
There are lots of ideas on Pintrest I would definitely head there for visual clues.
The birthday cake could be a caterpillar made of cupcakes or I have also seen a really cute one done with cake pops.

  • You could do a photo board and have photos in paper frames shaped like fruit.
Don’t go too overboard with the first birthday. Most little ones are too overwhelmed to enjoy them.

  • Don’t feel the pressure to go overboard as 1st birthday parties are really about the parents! If you have other little kids coming then definitely make things appropriate for kids! I didn’t go overboard and honestly in the scheme of things party themes really aren’t that important!

  • You could make the birthday cake out of cupcakes shaped like a caterpillar.

  • I did this theme for my daughter too. I made the food represent the food from the story and also made little food tags with images from the book. I found plums hard so I did jam drop biccies with plum jam. For decorations I bought the large paper lanterns-4 green and one red and made them look like the caterpillar.

  • Thanks I’m getting so excited about making all these things!!

  • lots of great ideas on Pinterest and just goggle very hungry caterpillar birthday ideas and there are heaps of ideas depending on your interest
