Hello!

Hello thanks for your advice.

We are looking at heating and cooling options for our home and just wondering if air conditioning is worth the cost? We live in NSW so it gets quite hot in Summer and quite cold in Winter.

Can air conditioning do both heating and cooling really well?

Which brand would you recommend as the Best Air Conditioning Brand? And also, ducted or the ones in the wall?

Thanks!

  • I have friends with ducted and it seems to work ok in summer and my neighbour has it but in winter he has tile fire. My sister has it and is always saying hers costs too much to keep on all the time, but I know you can shut the vent off in rooms you aren’t using. So everyone seems different I have only had the split air conditioning and I love it they are reverse cycle but sometimes my legs and feet are cold so I put my gas heater on for a while but I don’t like the smell of gas fires so I only use for maybe half a hour. When my big aircon broke down I had to buy a new one to replace it the Electrician recommended the Mitsubishi as he said they were very good, so I have that in my lounge room and I have a aircon in my bedroom and one in the kitchen and my back room and you can set the timers on them to turn on and off and I use it a lot as nice to come home to a cool house and at night I use the bedroom timer to turn off after a certain time so that I fall asleep comfortably. It depends on your budget also on what brand you get mine are all different ones and the one in my bedroom was a cheap brand and it works very good. I do know that ducted do not work good when humid and you have to have a window or door open when you use.

  • I have a Daikin Inverter Reverse Cycle Airconditioner which was in the unit when I bought it.
In our previous house we had the option of one big (in the wall) airconditioner and our power meter changed or two smaller ones – one each end of the house. Yes, like the other lady stated we were told by the salesman were were better off having two small ones. They were Westinghouse Brand. I don’t know if they still exist. We only used ours for cooling and they were 40 years old when the house sold. My Grandma and my Mum kept the instruction books for things like that.

  • We’ve had both ducted and wall mounted. Personally I prefer ducted as it keeps the whole house cool/warm but it can cost more. We’ve always gone with Fujitsu and never had an issue. Both types of systems have cooled and warmer really well. I live in Qld so I understand about the heat.

  • First of all remember ducting is different to individual air conditioners. Once ducting is on it does everywhere it’s installed and the running costs can be more, plus if it stops working you’ll have no heat or coolness, whereas individual air conditioners can be turned on/off when needed and can be beneficial on costs. Individual air conditioners usually can be used for heating and cooling. The brands we have used and prefer are Panasonic and Hitachi.
