Hello!

What are the best products to use to kill cockroaches? They are everywhere in my house and nothing seems to get rid of them.

  • I make traps for them using old jars with vaseline around the rim and some coffee grounds in the jar. The cockroaches are attracted to the coffee so they climb in and then can’t get out because of the vaseline on the rim and inside the jar. Once I’ve trapped some roaches, I pour boiling water into the jar and this kills them instantly. I then throw them in my garden.

  • Boric acid is one of the best home remedies for roaches if you are keen on taking the DIY approach. Mix equal amounts of boric acid, flour, and sugar to make a dough. Set balls of dough around the home where cockroaches can feed on it. The flour and sugar will attract the roaches while the boric acid will kill them.
However this is not the best with little kids around as they might munch away on your dough balls. In which case you can better use baking soda !
Take equal parts of baking soda and a pinch of sugar in a shallow bowl, then place it near to the cockroach-infested areas or in where roaches are usually roaming at your house. The sugar attracts the cockroaches while baking soda will kill them.
Another natural remedy is Diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is non-toxic to pets and humans, but it kills insects by destroying their exoskeletons. The roaches will take the “bait” back to their nest and feed it to the other roaches, who will also die. I’ve bought Diatomaceous earth in a health food store but you can buy it also online
