  • Due to so many kids having allergies I have never been able to send anything homemade to the school. If I wanted to take something in, I had to notify the school a week in advance of the packages product so they could send home permission slips for the kids parents to sign. So many kids would just do a chocolate bar as their “birthday cake”.

  • I’m lucky both my kids have birthdays during school holidays

  • Hi there. :) I stopped at the end of primary school. First started with cake, then graduated to cupcakes, so it’s easier to just hand out to everyone. We get the children to line up at the door on the way out to lunch, and hand everyone a cupcake. They all love it, and it’s really easy. :) Hope this helps.

  • I didn’t this year because I came down with a severe allergy and couldn’t stop scratching long enough to bake. This might have broken the train and now I am done (my twins are in Year 4).

  • Whenever you see fit really, probably about grade 2

  • I’ve found most parents stop after year 1 or 2 but my daughter does it every year still and she’s now year 4. We stopped sending cakes and now send a bag of chocolates or lollipops instead. It’s easier for the teachers and less mess than having to deal with cake.

  • Ooh, I haven’t done this yet as my child is not yet in school. I have read the answers with interest.

  • I think maybe year 4 … ask the child.

  • Our school won’t allow it due to allergies. But I would guess around 7

  • probably year 7!

  • this is a good question! i sent cupcakes but because that’s what she wanted and her whole class was doing it so it was a novelty

  • Primary school was the end of the school birthday cakes.

  • I would say until about 4th grade, we would mostly do a party anyway.

  • we don’t send them, we just give the kids a party and have cake then

  • there are some good comments here
