Hello!

My near 15 month old is walking and has been for close to 3 weeks now. I have a pair or soft prewalkers for him but thinking I need to get him some hard sole shoes, now that he is a lot more sturdier on his feet. What is the best way to do this, go to a shoe shop and get him properly fitted? What have been your preferred brands for first time shoes?

  • My son started to cruise and we bought him flexible slipper like shoes with rubber soles so that it is easier to not slip.

  • Can’t remember the brand but I was looking for one that was very light weight with a flexible sole. Most of the cheaper brands have very thick soles and I don’t think that’s good for the little ones feet.

  • When mine were toddlers i got them fitted and got clarks for them. Now i’ve found Aldi shoes awesome. Great quality, most of them leather and last until the kids grow out of them. They have one pair of clarks and a few pairs of Aldi(not sure of the brand) sandles. Im a stickler for good fitting shoes especially woth kids, but to date ive found the Aldi ones awesome.

  • It’s so very important to look after your kids feet well – to avoid future problems. Firstly get them properly fitted and secondly buy a quality brand. As much as cost more, we have always bought our daughters Airflex. She only gets one pair at a time, so in the end it cost no more than multiple cheap shoes. We have never had rubbing or blisters with Airflex.

  • We use sketches for our kids with memory foam soles they are great and the kids love them all different colours to choose from and a good range of sizes and awesome price

  • I’ve always used Clark’s and like the way the fit a child’s foot. I would go to a physical shop first and have their foot fitted properly.

  • Clark sellers – they will fit your bub and ensure the shoes are comfy. We have a great one in Melbourne with a train as a seat….very cool x

  • I love the Ecco shoes. They are more expensive than usual shoes but they last forever. And they are perfect for a child’s foot!

  • I like Clarks. They are expensive so I try to buy them when they are on special. The staff will measure your child’s foot and help you get the right fit.

  • We were advised that you should always have your child fitted properly for shoes. Incorrect fitting can result in permanent problems later. In Adelaide, Williams Shoes Kids are fantastic. We took a baby who went to sleep in her stroller before we found the shop. Once asleep she is very hard to wake (you can sit her up and put her dressing gown on her even now at 8 y.o.) The lady fitted her for shoes. We bent her knees to get better position and she didn’t even stir. They lady said to try them on her again, and let her walk in them inside just enough to make sure they fitted correctly and to being them back for an exchange if they didn’t. They were a perfect fit. A Mum I know had her child fitted the first time then put her in cheaper shoes that she thought fitted correctly which was the wrong decision as she is now flat footed and has to wear orthotics in her shoes which have to be certain types to take the orthotics.

  • Our kids have always warn shoes from Kmart, Target etc, but have always worn a good pairs of school shoes such as Clarks etc as I find them last longer .You can also browse at Pumpkin Patch and usually I pop in at a great sale and I buy few items for presents as well at a great price . Their clothes are very cute as well.

  • I really like adidas dragon shoes for my sons. They are lightweight bit solid and durable to being scraped across the floor.

  • When i got my sons their first runners, I got them fitted properly and got shoes that had a soft top. It just meant that their feet could still have flexibility while having a hard sole.

  • We took my toddler to a kids shoe size to get properly fitted so we had an idea of size. Then we just purchased our shoes from Target. But I will say we also invested in a good pair Clarks leather sandals for summer as I knew he would be wearing them a lot and I wanted something that would breathe.

  • i have just got shoes from big w .
