Hello!

so Centrelink asked me to do a review of my income from 7 years ago so I put in the details of what I had to what they had and there figures were way off.
Anyways after about 6 weeks the review just disappeared and no correspondence nothing about from them at all, 3 months on and then mysteriously I received a letter saying that I had a rent assistance debt from last year and I didn’t confirm rent …anyone else had this happen? I think they’re just trying to get some money either way, I’ve asked for a review of the rent assistance debt.
I have a proof that I was paying rent and everything like that I’m just curious to know whether anyone else has had similar situation

  • I had some interesting dealings with Centrelink ;) OMG lets not go there! I hope it all works out for you.

  • We haven’t had an issue with rent assistance etc as we don’t receive Centrelink, but they did send us a 2k debt notice for 2015, a time we weren’t even receiving payments.
Always out for money and it is pathetic.

  • Ive had so many issues with centrelink since my son was born and its so fustrating getting them to explain things

  • I had something like this happen to me. It took so much of my time to go through paperwork, pay slips etc from 4 years ago to prove what I had already told them. It was there fault as they had recorded an employer incorrectly and it didn’t correspond with the ATO. So frustrating!

  • I haven’t but I know lots of people have had dramas. Just keep records of everything and all your contact with them and it should be sorted out.

  • I believe you have to be paying over a certain amount to qualify for rent assistance.
I know somebody who had been very sick after working. She notified them in writing that she was working part time and the letter was acknowledged. When she rechecked her paperwork she discovered they hadn’t reduced her pension. Rather than get a hefty fine she contacted them to ask if she had to repay any money. Their response was that she didn’t owe them any but she owed the ATO money. Luckily it wasn’t as much as she thought it would be.

  • unfortunately things like this happen all the time with Centrelink – did you fill out a rent certificate? if you did ask them to do a review and they will check the records to see if they have it.

  • This robo-debt rort by centrelink has been in the headlines so often lately, it’s disgusting. I have a friend who had a job capacity assessment for disability pension back in 2016. At the end he was told he would need a follow up medical check too. 3 years later and still waiting

  • No never had anything like that happen but stick to your guns. Sounds like they are just looking for a reason to get money from you! Terrible! Hope it all works out.

  • No, but honestly their system is pretty horrible and many of the staff don’t care much about their work. Mistakes are common.
