Hello!

“Hi all, I am thinking about putting my 18 month old in childcare when she turns two, can anyone tell me how much I get back from the government? How much should I be paying for each day? I just want to make sure it is worth it if I go back to work. Thanks”

  • It will depend on how much you are earning, but the family assistance website and calculator can give you a good idea.

  • Each centre charges differently and the amount you get back depends on the amount you earn and the amount you pay out – best to check out dhs website or call them

  • check out the centerlink site. our fees are around $90 a day

  • I pay the full amount, about $85 a day and claim half back at the end of the financial year

  • Child care benefit is a reduction in the daily rate/fee of the child care centre that your child attends and is based on your and your partners combined income (if income is too high you may not qualify). The child care rebate then gives you a further 50% back of your what you end up paying in fees i.e. Your out-of-pocket expense (and is not income tested but capped at $7500 per year). You can apply online or give Centrelink a call and you may even be eligible to claim verbally.

  • on the human services website there is a calculator that will tell you your benefit and rebate amount based on your income

  • Try Centrelink website for info!!

  • There should be information on the centrelink website about what you would get back – if not I’d call them as they would be able to advise or let you know who to talk to in order to find out.
