Hello!

I didn’t put my tree up until late last year and had a terrible christmas, this year it is going up on thw 1st December. Do any other mums find this tradition an old wives tale or a shred of truth in the statement.

  • Yes, I put it up on 1st December and take it down on 6th January.

  • The last few years I haven’t had an Xmas tree. This year all my family will be here so I’m getting a live tree. I’ll be leaving it til just before they arrive so it’s not half dead. When the kids were little, I put up the decorations on the first of Dec. my daughter has had hers up for a few weeks already

  • I didn’t know about that tradition but we always take our tree down on the 12th day of Xmas. Hope 2016 is a better year for you!

  • i put it up at the end of november but i don’t have a set routine and i don’t believe in superstitions,

  • Why did you have a terrible Christmas based on your tree ? I can’t understand that part. I remembered some years we didn’t have a tree because it was too much of a hassle to put it up . I think the tradition is that if you are going to put that much effort in putting it up and decorating it , it may as well last a month . Also after new year it is no longer the season and then before you know it , you take it down again . There are many ways to tackle Christmas such as giving , going to church ( for those that do ) etc. so don’t be too concerned and base it on a tree. Have a nice Xmas and new year won’t you :)

  • It has been a family tradition in our family. Tree & decorations go up Dec 1st & come down Jan 1st. I’ve always done it that way mainly because it’s what we’ve always done.
    Love this time of year!

  • I have always heard that christmas tree/decorations should not go up earlier than 1st December and should be down by 1st Jan. I am happy to follow the ‘rule’ of not before 1st December, However the latter I am no good at and just want to keep the Christmas cheer going for a long as i can. The lights are so beautiful & always smile and think of how I felt as a child seeing those lights flick on and off. To be honest I think that child still comes out in me at Xmas. Looking forward to my bubs first christmas this year :) I think people should just do what they want to do. lets face it, retailers have Christmas stuff in store in October these days – so it is really up to what you believe in.

  • I put my tree up in December when l have time to get in the Christmas mood!

  • Christmas is a time to rest and relax and not stress which can be hard for some people. Try and get some support with Christmas from friends and family and have a good Christmas.

  • We’ve always set aside December 1st as our night to put the tree up. It’s become a family tradition that even our children who have left home do. It didn’t start as anything fancy originally but just sort of grew to becoming part of our personal traditions.

  • I put mine up in December, no earlier and I do not believe in ‘old wives tales’. We have a special celebration day when we put it up. Hope you have a better Christmas than the last one! :)

  • It always goes up December 1st however as my sons bday is 28 dec we take the tree down on boxing day to clear the way to make his bday all about him & not Christmas. Plus its great as after his birthday & we are All exhausted, the work is all done!!

  • Our tree goes up after day after my son’s birthday on the 12th. When he was young he thought it not fair others did not have other decorations up. As he was born then we thought ok, save the hassles and it has stuck. now have 3 children sharing this day so it is here for good.

  • I am used to take it down after January 6th. So it’s up for more than a month.

  • We always put our Christmas tree up on 1st December, but this year we put it up on the Sunday before (29 Nov), and we always take it down in mid-January.
