My teenage daughter and friend are going on a Contiki tour to Europe in January. Are there any do’s and dont’s that they should be aware of? It’s their first time overseas and I want them to have a great time.

Ask your question

  • Don’t be late for when they leave, cause they’ll leave without you.

  • they basically do everything for you!! when you do get free time just use common sense/ especially at night, if you are not on time for bus in the morning they WILL leave without you.

  • I found them very well organised as the leaders have been going to the destinations for a while. Tell the girls to stay together, if one wants to go home the other person needs to leave or they negotiate and stay. And tell them to message there Mum’s everyday (or second).

  • Make sure they always know the name of the hotel they’re staying in, in case they’re separated from the group. I once ran into a girl in Rome who had got separated from her group, and all she knew about her hotel was that “it was big and had a chandelier in the lobby”. This was long before mobile phones. I have no idea how she ever found her group again.
Be aware there’s a real culture of drinking heavily on Contiki tours. Give them some advice about drinking safely.
