Hello!

I would like to hear what others do to get through the times when everything just feels like it is too much? Dealing with finances, work, family commitements etc is really getting to me and I just don’t know what to do. What are some coping mechanisms I could use?

  • In times that it’s all a bit too much and you need to spend attention to yourself you can cancel appointments because you have already an appointment (with yourself) ! In my opinion you can have an appointment with yourself to have for example a nap, go out browsing in the shops, have a massage or whatever. Give yourself permission that you don’t have to be able to do everything ! You could even take a (mental) sick day from work. When you look to the definition of Health it’s ok to take a sick day when it all gets too much. “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.


  • I don’t know if I’ld recommend it as something to do, but it works for me. I shut down, shut everyone and everything out til I think I’m over it. Then I resurface and face the world again.


  • Mmm I hear you at times I think im close to having a break down.


  • If you can afford anything just going to the hairdresser getting your nails done can help as you get a treat. I don’t know if you follow a budget but this might look like something you need to look into.


  • Stop! That’s what I’d say.. Give yourself some time to stop and rest.. And when I say rest, actually don’t do anything.. Try meditating if you are at home.


  • Try to not think about things until they come up. try some yoga or meditation and do a budget for money. I hope you get through this difficult time


  • crying actually makes me feel a bit better as sad as that sounds


  • How did you end up going? I know how you feel, it is very difficult at times!


  • I have a lay down in my woredrobe and have a little cry. Reliefs the stress.

    Also I teach my kids traffic light , stop , think , go


  • Talk with your partner/husband and let him/her know what you are going through. Even your parents might be able to help


  • Definitely open up and talk to people about how you’re feeling. I hope things go well for you x


  • I think sometimes u need to find ‘ ur happy place’ mine is the beach and go there


  • Talk to people: family, friends, other mums. You’d often be surprised at how many people are willing to help. Priority lists are often the only way I can function – the top three things I need to get done (not everything for the entire week). I often find that keeping the list small gives me a sense of achievement and also highlights that some of the smaller things really don’t matter that much (they never seem to make it onto the priority list). With finances keeping check on the shopping budget can be made easier by online shopping (no impulse buying there) and might also free up some time for you.


  • I think it’s important to speak up and ask for help. Often, those closest to you don’t realise just how weighed down you feel. I go through periods like this – where everything seems to get on top of me, and when I feel like I’m no longer treading water, I speak up and ask my husband to help out more. I am lucky to have a wonderful husband who now understands that when I do ask for help, he has to just step up and help, no questions asked, and will often send me out of the house to get some “me” time to wind down and relax. I hope you have some special people in your life that you can ask for help from. Good luck.


  • have some ME time , relax with a good book, a chat with a friend a trip to the shopping centre even if its window shopping
