I have a terrible cough that I can’t get rid of. Nothing seems to help. Do any mums have any secret remedies?

  • Another sounds silly but it works rub a good amount of Vicks vapour rub on your feet then put socks on also an asthma puffer

  • Sounds silly… but gargle coke… Not diet, but full strength full fizzy coke (and spit it out coz it’ll taste pretty foul).

  • Nuelin Syrup fantastic but unsure if you can buy it over the counter

  • Honey and lemon with a drop of brandy, squeeze lemon add hot water and honey to taste and brandy if you want to. also find that butter menthol help with the coughing fits, If cough persists go to the doctor you might need an inhaler in the short term.

  • Tha k you ladies, some useful tips here. I’ve been having manuka honey, lemsip & bought some horseradish & garlic tablets, thank you :)

  • Sold in asian shops, there is a caugh medicine based on honey. This is the magic ingredient that alwyas works for me whether dry cough or wet cough. Other cough medicine like Vics tend to dry the throat, which makes a cough worse rather than better.

  • Vic’s is wot my parents used for me

  • aside from going to the doctor my husband’s hot toddy will cure anything! Good squeeze of lemon (1/2 to a whole lemons worth of juice), tablespoon of honey (roughly), hot tea and a good slug of port/whiskey. Soothes the throat and helps you get a good nights sleep too!

  • I like a lot of the home remedies suggested…I’d not heard of Turmeric powder mixed with a teaspoon of honey but will be suggesting it to one of the ladies where I work, as she has a re-occurring cough. Doctors have checked her out but all they do is give anti-biotics rather than find the cause…

  • good recommendations her ladies but if its not going away go see your doctor. Good luck

  • Turmeric powder mixed with a teaspoon of honey taken three to four times a day is effective.

  • Senega & Ammonia – can be bought from a pharmacy! Tastes disgusting but was an oldie & goodie when I worked in a pharmacy! Also Apple cidar vinegar!

  • Hope you have found a cause or solution after all these suggestions?

  • a persistant coup , you should go to the GP as there could be something series happening. Good Luck

  • green tea is good also
