Hello!

I’m interested in opinions on the adenoidectomy? My 3.5 yr old has a runny nose, sounds nasally, has speech and behavioural issues and doesn’t eat much. Sometimes is a snorer but no signs or apnoea or infections. I’ve read it has helped with these things?

  • My friend had that done, and it helped with the snoring, but she was an adult. It could be allergies, so speak to a specialist

  • Yes definitely seek advice from a specialist and discuss this with them for sure.

  • My daughter had the triple banger (tonsillectomy grommets and adnoids) 2 years ago no more fighter planes at night

  • My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed at 2.5 years. I was constantly at the doctors because her throat was always swollen but never infected. They told me that because it\’s not infected there was nothing they could do. I eventually got a referral to a specialist that took one look at her and said yes they need to come out. The signs that they needed to come out were. Sleeping all night but still tired in the morning and chewing meat then being unable to swallow so spitting it out. Her tonsils where double the size they were ment to be. I\’m glad it was done it made such a big difference.

  • Also, a good idea to get second opinions

  • Best to seek advice from a specialist and discuss this with them in detail – good luck.

  • my gp said they would not be interested as no infection. oh well. this age its common. he has a speech rv later in the year

  • See your doc. I don’t know, it might help. My old childhood friend had issues and went to doc and turns out that he had shoved a styrofoam ball up there when he was little and only knew about it in his early 20’s. Might be something similar

  • My son was always sick and was three when we decided to get something done. I demanded from our Gp to be reffered to a ear throught and nose specilist after the fourth bout of tonsilitis straight. As soon as he saw my son before even checking him he said that he could help. After checking him over he was booked in and with in two weeks had them out and his tonsils. He no longer was a awful colour his skin soon changed to a healthy glow, no longer snored at night and was not sick any more than a normal kid. Within hours of having them out he was running around the hospital ward with enegry we had never seen in him before, we were begging to take him home. His 3 year old kinder carers were no longer worried about him passing out due to his coughing spells. I can say it was the best thing we did for him. But follow the advise you aer given and if in doupt get a second opinion.

  • You would have to see your local doctor who would then have to prefer you to a specialist. The specialist would be able to inform you if it was necessary.
