Hello!

I’m thinking of putting my 17 month old son in daycare 1 day a week to play with others. I work 3 days a week and he stays with his father, who is wanting a day job. What’s people’s thoughts on daycare? Thanks

  • Daycare places are great! They’re full of professional that will help educationally and there’s other children for your little one to socialise with. It will be great for you and great for bub

  • I was so worried about putting my kid in childcare but I really think it’s good for them! They get to socialise do arts and crafts lots of outside fun! Note though they are likely to get sick a lot in the first couple of months but it’s probably good for their immune system!

  • it will be really good for him. and give you guys a break

  • What did you end up deciding? My kids both went to childcare and it was fantastic for them.

  • Do it, with child care benefit the costs are really quite minimal, the social aspect for your child can not be underestimated, and obviously your husband would probably enjoy some time out, I was a single mum with 3 pre-schoolers and worked fulltime, my children have grown up fine, it is a matter of finding the right day care, some centres suit some children better, and some people prefer family day care, but certainly do it,

  • I think it is a great way for the child to have social interaction and learn a new set of social skills. However, keep in mind some centres have a 2 days per week minimum attendance requirement – maybe something to ask about when enquiring

  • daycare is good but can be expensive

  • i think its great for them to interact with other kids

  • Daycare is fine. Your son will be OK. I used it for my kids.

  • I was unsure of daycare at first but had to put my son in he went Monday and Friday mornings and he loved it it changed him so much he was always wanting me and was more in dependant it was great which I done it when he was younger.

  • I have my kids in a council run centre one day a week, I decided on a centre because I just couldn’t quite accept my kids being in someone’s home without more eyes and ears on them. I love that the centres are so regulated and the kids aren’t alone with only one adult, but rather a group of adults and kids.

  • Best thing that you can do. Your child will learn how to interact with other children and a great way to learn new things. My son did 3 days but only 3 hours a pop. He eventually ended up doing 3 year old kinda at the same place and after completing 4 year old somewhere else he went off to school being the second youngest in his grade, most are a year older than him and has always got top marks at school.

  • I have my son in family Daycare one day a week he turns 2 this month. He has a great time every week. He has learnt so many new words since going there over the past 2 months and he has learnt how to play better with other children. Being an only child this has been so good for him. the developmental changes are amazing. I also find t give me a day to do the messy and tedious jobs that are a little more difficult with bub around and also have a recharge of my batteries ready to go for another week. I looked into family daycare more than a centre as I preferred the smaller amount of children and the comfortable home environment. Either way you are his mum and you will know the best thing to do that will work for you and your child =)

  • I don’t like it when they are so young, especially if you work as well. you will miss so much of his growth

  • i think he will be fine in day care
