Hello!

As soon as my son wakes up in the morning, I get him out of bed and he just throws himself on the ground and starts to whine…. he will drag himself out of his room and just wiiiiiine.
I try giving him normal morning things, milk, breakfast… he just refuses and throws himself back and continues to cry.
after he has calmed down he will come back to what ever I offered him and take it….

but the first contact in the morning really is quiet stressful. What can I do to help him?

  • Personally I would try my best not to react to the morning behaviour (as hard as it is). Just go about your morning and engage when he is using good behaviour.

  • Ignoring would be the best in my opinion, put earplugs in when needed ! ;)
And at the same time praise him and give positive attention when he asks or something in his normal voice.

  • I agree with Nas01 that ignoring his morning tantrums might help change his behaviour.

  • I’m in the exact same boat but with 3 out of 4 of my kids and I hate tgat they have to start the day off like this but I find ignoring the behaviour (as hard as it it) and maki g a point that you will not engage with them whilst their whining or throwing a tantrum will eventually work and hopefully change their morning attitude:

  • He’s not a morning person, maybe let him awaken before trying to feed him .

  • Tell him he is using his winning voice but he needs to use his normal voice. If he wants something he can ask in his normal voice and you will listen. He can come out of his room with his happy face on when he is ready. After a few days he should stop winning so long and may need to odd reminder.

  • Don’t get him out of bed leave he there, let him get up in his own time, don’t offer him food just leave it where he can get it.

  • oh you poor thing hope thing get better

  • Don’t get him up just leave him sit ther,e he may need a minute to process.

  • Could you perhaps try waking him a little earlier with his favourite song or movie? You poor thing, I’m generally pretty miserable in the morning but that must be pretty rough.

  • The whining gets to me too. I walk away and think I have tuned out to some extent. There’s only so many ways that you can ask them to stop it. Goodluck :)

  • Try to ignore his early morning tantrum and maybe hold off giving him food until he asks for it.

  • I know exactly what you are talking about. My 4 yr is like that. We are trying to stay strong and consist. If we give in once she keeps pushing

  • I would leave him in bed for a while let him fully wake up then get him out of bed. He may be one of these kids that just need a little bit of time to fully wake. If he still does it after that just let him be and he will eventually will get it.

  • ignore him for a while, just walk into another room after you have said goodmorning, don’t even offer breakfast for at least half hour
