Hello!

Our LO has just started crawling and we are baby proofing the house. We have done all electrical ports and cords, working on a few other things like drawers and cupboards but we are stuck on anchoring, our tv is on a tv unit and at risk. What did you do to stop your LO’s getting to it. Also did you anchor any shelving to the wall for support?

  • Anchoring in the wall is often not an option when you rent. We always had heavy television cupboard and anchored the television in the cupboards. With our youngest who was a climber, still 3 smart tv’s were smashed. When anchoring shelving units in the wall isn’t an option, it’s sometimes an option to anchor a shelving unit in a heavier cupboard next to it.

  • We haven’t anchored our tv, it’s on our low tv unit. My one year old stands at the tv unit and would pull herself up on it but I’ve just taught her not to touch things she shouldn’t eg tv, cords etc they need to learn at some point so we did it from the beginning

  • I strongly suggest anchoring furniture as they don’t make the sides as long as they used to. They tend to pull themselves up on furniture when they start standing up. I know a toddler who decided to climb into a low drawer and tipped the whole dresser down on top herself and knocked herself unconscious.

  • We didn’t anchor ours. In fact the only baby proofing we did was the cor we covers which now that she’s 1 bub pulls off the second she sees them.

If it’s at risk of toppling try a baracade of some sort if not wanting to anchor. A play pen works as does a coffee table or ottamons.

  • Ours was not a big risk due to size and being low dwn. Friends put a playpen fence around theirs.

  • I think it’s better making sure your home is safe for children. This could prevent a serious accident.Don’t wait until it’s too late.Last year one of my friends tv smashed on the floor by her 3 year old.

  • Can u put playpan around it or something like it?

  • We did not anchor our tv to the wall but we bought a safety anchor that attches to our entertainment unit
