Hello!

Have you bought a device for your child to use at school, and if so, what year was your child in at school, and can you recommend a brand, size of screen etc.

  • Maybe ask your school, because if they have school devices for sharing, it’s important that yours is compatible.

  • It is so hard to make a decision isn’t it? Our school has recommendations but they don’t compare them in any meaningful way. I think I will ask that they run a parent information night along with models to look at. Then I will be better able to make an informed decision.

  • you buy a laptop through the school. they will purchase the right ones but you just pay for it. it needs to have their software put on that the kids require for their school work.

  • You are welcome, MOM160421

  • Find out how they actually use devices at school too.

  • Thanks MoM90758. I’ll look into that brand.

  • School provides them for the students.

  • MOM160421, my daughter uses it every day in high school (she’s in Year 7). They do lessons in class with the computer, they are always connected to the school server, they get assignments there… I think it would be a great investment to buy your daughter one.
At school they use a HP Probook 430 G1

  • I bought my son a basic cheap tablet from Kmart when he was allowed to bring his own device this year in year 5. We will be investing in a laptop or a bit better tablet as he enters high school.

  • I posted this question because my daughter is in high school, and whether the students use a device or not is optional. So far she has not needed a device. I’m not sure if this will change as she gets closer to senior years. As far as what type of device, the school outlines minimum requirements but it does not recommend specific brands/models.

  • We had to buy it now that my daughter is in high school. All the kids at school use the same laptops, set up by the school IT department.

  • No, I haven’t heard of this until high school age. I would think that the school would have recommendations around this.

  • Nope, never. There is no way I would buy something so expensive for them to take to school. Too many thieves and idiots there, it wouldn’t take long before it was ruined or stolen

  • We are still deciding if we are going too, not sure what though or what age yet.
