Hello!

My friend bought lots of lovely maternity dresses but now has no use for them. I received hand me Downs and just made do except for waist extenders. What did you do?

  • No I didn’t buy any maternity clothes and just did with what I had in the cupboard. I had plenty of wider dresses, stretchy stuff and wacky pants, that I didn’t feel the need to add anything to my wardrobe.

  • I bought alf a dozen maternity pieces, which saw e through 3 pregnancies.

  • With my first pregnancy I bought a couple of maternity tops mainly to wear to work but by the time I had my second child, mind you I had a 6yr break, I just wore my own clothes & got a belly belt

  • A friend of mine started wearing feeding tops before her baby was born rathere than buy more tops to fit her, as the weather changed to quite cold…and she was cold. Not like northern Qld where our normal weather in the southern states feels cold to them anf they look for thicker clothes. Their atmosphere up there is really humid compared to theirs.

  • I’ve bought a number of maternity tops and singlets as well as a couple of pairs of maternity jeans. Apart from that I’ve been second hand shopping

  • What a great friend. You only need to wear for the 9 months and I only had a handful which I purchased and really if it is comfy and loose on you , it is considered maternity to me . I am a small size and buying large clothing looked ridiculous on me . My daughter was a spring baby so needed clothes that was cool and comfortable and was fortunate a lot of my clothes still fitted as I didn’t get too large .

  • I was a bit of both. I bought some new maternity clothes with each pregnancy, with 2 of my pregnancies though I was very lucky and very happy to receive hand-me-downs from a couple of friends. Made life so much easier… I also wore a few maxi dresses during the summer ect… which of course weren’t maternity and I could still wear them post-pregnancy =D

  • I just wore my normal clothes with long singlets from target, I just got bigger sizes

  • I bought a few tops which also could be used for nursing.
I also bought a belly belt which could be used on your pants to extend it out, it hooked on the button and then there was a clip/button to put in the button hole. I will see if I can find it to take a photo.

  • I also received some hand me downs from my sister which were great. Because I had also lost weight before falling pregnant, I was able to continue wearing my regular clothes for a lot longer than expected. It was great because my partner and I are only having one child and I didn’t want to waste unnecessary money on something I would only wear for a few months.

In addition, I bought a few cheap pieces from Target and Big W that were either maternity wear or regular clothes in a larger size. It worked for me.

  • I was lucky, I didn’t get too big with any of my pregnancies, so I coped with mostly loose fitting clothes and trackie dacks. I did buy a maternity dress, overalls, 2 pairs of trousers and a jumper tho. They didn’t get much wear at all

  • made do until i needed mat stuff! my mother in law bought me some stuff and then i never had to lol. the only thing that she ever bought me.

  • Mostly I wore stretchy tops and pregnancy bands over my open jeans. Maternity clothes are so expensive and most did not suit my shape

  • I just made do although I am quite small (and didn’t pop out much at all) so it was pretty simple

  • A mix of clothes is always useful.
