Hello!

I was able to donate my umbilical for my first bub but was not able to for the 2nd, I just wondered if people even know this facility is available, if you are not keeping it for yourself they mainly go in the bin. Collected cords are used for their stem cells for research into cures for many diseases and ailments.

  • Yes, but I believe there are only a few hospitals in Australia equipped to collect and preserve these.

  • Wow that’s great I did know but not to the extent of there research sounds good I kept mine

  • We looked int doing this, but we just didnt have the cash spare to do it unfortunately :(

  • I really didnt know that! My daughters cord is just as a keep sake in her box but would have been great to know straight after birth

  • Yes I am aware that this can be done. I’ve never done this although I feel it may be beneficial to do so.

  • Wow, i never new that!!

  • I never knew that, how interesting!

  • Yes! but not all hospitals do it! can make such a difference to someones life!

  • I wasn’t able to donate it because it isn’t available at all hospitals unfortunately. I did look into though.

  • I never knew this and wondering what paper work needs to be done for it.

  • Good on you Lisajb71 for raising awareness about donating umbilical cords. :)

  • I spoke to the hospital whilst pregnant, the collection team were notified when I was in labour and were able to harvest the cord once my bub was born.
I just feel not many people know they can do this.

  • I didn’t know this. If I did I would have donated my umbilical cord.

  • Did you mean you could donate the cord blood or the cord itself? We delayed cord clamping, so our bub got all the blood out of his cord – then the cord, placenta etc was thrown out with medical waste

  • I agreed to mine be used.
