Hello!

We have just discovered my son has lactose intolerance. We have been told he might grow out of it, I really hope so! Did you bub grow out of it?

  • My son is 19 now and he didn’t grow out of it.

  • If it’s definitely lactose intolerance and not a dairy allergy, you can try a lactase enzyme to reduce the lactose in both breastmilk and formula (there are drops available for this). If your baby is on solids you can actually crush up half a tablet and mix it with some water and give just before they eat yoghurt, cheese etc. Transient lactose intolerance usually happens when a young baby’s immature digestive system can’t cope with digesting all of the lactose in their milk feeds but things usually improve after 4 months. Older babies with lactose intolerance is rarer and they may or may not grow out of it. Dairy allergies are the ones that seem to usually improve over time, but again, not always.

  • It is individual and your GP will be able to offer you the best advice. My children have not ‘grown’ out of food intolerances.

  • Same here! Apparently, most babies grow out of it around 18 months of age, some however are stuck with it for life. How hard is it watching bub suffering while they work out the intolerance :,(
