  • According to the Denver II, 25% of children can walk backwards by 12 months, 75% by 15 months, and 90% by 16 months. Once your child has learned to walk forwards successfully, they will then attempt to take steps backwards. Walking backwards is a critical skill for children to learn.

  • On occasion, his now 21 months. I think he finds it amusing and a small challenge.

  • No , but my son started crawling backwards before forwards. I think it is easier to step back then lift your feel. Ask the childhood nurse , which I am sure can provide you with a smart answer .

  • Sounds just great! It was interesting reading the comments on this!

  • No, never, yours is very clever :)

  • Yes crawling backwards and walking backwards gone through all that with my first daughter and my second one have only started crawling now.

  • Here and there but not very often!!

  • No, but it must look funny! Am sure it’s a natural step.

  • Definitely. Not all the time, and not for long walks – but a few steps now and then, sure.

  • No. That’s pretty impressive though are they going forwards now?

  • No but my son crawled backwards so I’m sure nothing to worry about maybe speak to gp if there is any concerns but I’ve heard it’s normal learning skill.

  • Our 2 yr old still does. Loves doing it down the hallway and often thinks we don’t notice her doing it as she tries to slink away to avoid doing something. It’s one of their developmental milestones for around 15mths

  • How is she going we crawled backwards for a few weeks but soon figured it out!

  • Its normal. They eventually lean the right way, try not to worry.

  • We have just overcome crawling backwards, Walking backwards takes talent!
