  • Interesting reading… I have just been told I have under active thyroid but because of the current Covid19, I have not been able to have follow up treatment. These answers will be helpful when I go back to Dr.

  • I highly recommend you read a book called “Thyroid healing” by Anthony William, all your answers will be there.

  • Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland.
Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid is not releasing enough of the two main hormones it produces, T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine)

  • You are welcome. I’ve got Hashimoto thyroiditis.

  • Thanks so much for your answer! :D Much clearer than the doctor!

  • Yes, they are different.
Hashimoto is an auto-immune disease. That means that your own immune system is fighting against your thyroid. In your body you have some special antibodies that attack your owns cells. And you need to take medicines to keep those numbers under control.
Often, if you have Hashimoto, you have hypothyroidism too. Your thyroid is thus underactive and doesn’t produce enough thyroxine.
But you can have hypothyroidism without having Hashimoto. To be diagnosed with Hashimoto they have to find some special antibodies in your blood.
