  • They’re clean, and yes, I do think they generally offer good value.

  • Any manicure wouldn’t last long with me.

  • I’ve never been. I don’t like the chemical smell in the salon.

  • Never again! Nail salons do not have to adhere to any infection control standards and have dubious infection control techniques. My finger was made to bleed after they used a nail burr on a dremel and the staff member told me she would pour boiling water over it (the nail burr, that is). Seriously this is not adequate to destroy possible blood borne pathogens. Reusing instruments without sterilising them in a proper steam autoclave is a great way to spread fungal infections :-(
I bought an acrylic nail kit on eBay, watched some YouTube videos on how to do it and it worked well and cost $3.50 for 10 fingers. I would rather do that than risk infections in a nail salon.

  • I have a couple of friends who have nail salons and I don’t have a problem with any of them. They’re clean, professional and well presented. I don’t go often mind you

  • I personally NEVER thought about going there. They can infect your nails so badly with their unsteralized instruments.

  • Never have, don’t think I ever will. They don’t look enjoyable to me to sit there in a row with others.

  • No. Personally I avoid them. I think the odours are quite toxic. I try to hold my breath and prevent the chemicals from getting into my system shoud l I walk passed.

  • I have gone for a pedicure (without any problems at all). Just can’t afford to go back now. If I could afford I would as I think it is wonderful. Luxury item though. The pedicure I received made my feet smooth and lasted for ages.

  • Good answers – time for a visit to a nail salon. :)

  • I do and honestly you just need to find a salon that looks and feels clean. You can spot this from the minute you walk in. A good clean salon should tell you how they are with cleaning protocols when asked.

  • Good idea mum 172741 to ask about the hygiene and cleaning protocols.

  • I know so many woman who do and love it,yet l like doing my own nails and it doesn’t cost a fortune!

  • No, personally I’ve never used one.

  • Depends on where you go. You can always ask what their cleaning and hygiene practises are. I have been to a few for pedicures that disinfect the foot bath after use as I am sitting there. You can ask how the tools are sanitised.
