  • I’ve never shopped on gumtree, but I would imagine care would need to be taken, as with all online shopping. It’s too easy to be ripped off and with no way to be refunded

  • Since Gumtree was introduced , I had no problems in selling or buying items. I think that selling is more stressful because it is more of an effort because you do get a lot of time wasting with people changing minds and safety issues as noted on the site. With buying , its always best to ask the right questions and if possible deal look for deals close to home and deal with cash transactions . If a photo or the ad looks remotely dodgy or untrustworthy, don’t even bother . Bring a friend with you if you are buying large items for safety issues and they also act as a witness on the transaction in case anything happens . Like everything else use your instincts and stay safe .

  • I have never shopped on Gumtree but My daughter said it is good.

  • I have used gumtree to both buy and sell, I have to say my experience has been mostly positive except for one sale that I made that the person lied about the quality of the item!

  • I have bought a few things from Gumtree and it has always been a positive experience.

  • No l wouldn’t buy off Gumtree.

  • No I’ve heard to many bad stories about Gumtree & it has detered me from ever shopping on there.
I do highly recommend Ebay & local Buy Swap & Sell sites on Facebook.

  • I found that you do get some no shows ,but overall I found it good .Just don’t send cash ,see product if possible.

  • no i haven’t, but i have a friend who always buys off gumtree

  • No, I prefer local Facebook noticeboards and ebay

  • Yes, although like others have mentioned is can be really hit and miss, if you’re having something posted to you make sure you take the option of paypal and even if you have to pay the fees then do it so if the item is not as described you have a chance of claiming your money back.
I’d also take a screenshot/copy the item description. That way if the product doesn’t suit your needs and you need to move it on you have something to refer back to.

  • Have thought about – but yet to make a purchase.

  • I have bought a few things off Gumtree and sold heaps. Has been useful to sell no longer required baby stuff. The trouble is people always want stuff for next to nothing, or are time wasters, so from a seller’s point of view, you don’t get much money back. But in terms of buying, then you can get heaps of bargains. Obviously you have to be careful as you can get some dishonest people but generally, in my experience, it’s pretty good.

  • Like anything it’s hit and miss. Do research and don’t lock in to buy before you have viewed the item. Factor in the distance to pick it up and transport costs. I have had great success selling unwanted furniture and buying cheap furniture and toys,

  • I love Gumtree. It is great to buy from people in your local area.
