  • I love being rural (or perhaps semi-rural since we are only 10 minute drive from a Coles supermarket!). One drawback about location is being about an hour from the city, and a good 30 minutes from any other entertainment/ fitness centres. But at least we have a small shopping strip with the Coles and it’s nothing like a real rural property that’s hours from anywhere. Bushfires are a bit of a worry. But other than that it’s great to have space, privacy, peace and quiet. Plus looking after a block is a great workout! The kids liked growing up here and school wasn’t too far either.

  • Absolutely love it! I’ve always been a country girl

  • Love it! Fresh air and big open spaces, can’t see the neighbours. Only downside is access to essential services like dentists and big supermarkets. Nearly a two hour drive for these!

  • We love it! The kids have so many adventures outside and love it. I’ve got some close mummy friends near me and also rely on social media to catch up with friends and family who don’t live near me.

  • I live in a rural town and absolutely love it! I’m far enough away from people and close enough to the things I love. I’m also into photography, so scenery photos are amazing for me!

  • I would say it has a lot of pros and a lot of cons, I think this depends totally on your own personal needs and desires.

  • I think living in a rural community is great for kids growing up. It helps them appreciate nature and have plenty of space to get outdoors. The only thing I have found is as they grow up it can be challenging for some country kids to find there way. As sometimes growing up rural there are not as many opportunities job wise so they may have to move nearer the bigger towns. Also if they are to attend uni there is often the challenge of travel or living away.

  • I love it as the kids Herr still do loads of outdoor activities. The closest fast food outlet is over an hour away so when we have it it really is a treat

  • We live in a small rural town. It makes travelling into the big city much more exciting and a treat.

  • We ‘ve been living in a rural area for the past 6 years and wish that we had moved sooner and onto more land ! This has been the best decision for our whole family – except for Miss 16 who would like to see more of her friends and the shops in the closest big town – 40 kms away. We find we drive more than we thought we would.

  • After many years of living near a big city and having everything on our doorstep, we’ve moved to a semi rural area. I love the peace and quiet, I love the countryside and I love not having my neighbours within arms reach of our fence … but I do miss not being able to walk to the shops and I miss the cafes. But, overall, I think this lifestyle is more relaxing and better for us.

  • For me having spent 18 years living in a town full of shops to then moving to a farming town with only 1 pub, no shops and less than 100 people it can definitely get lonely. Especially when the only person I can speak to during the days whilst my husband is at work is a 1 year old.. with the nearest town being 30 mins away I make sure I go to town atleast twice a week and partake in a playgroup to have interactions with other mums.

  • I do at times its really hard but I do adore being in a tiny community

  • I’ve often thought about moving to a rural. There would be lots of pros and cons surrounding such a decision.

  • I live in regional WA. It’s so quiet and peaceful here. I love going to Perth once in a while, but after one day in the middle of crowd and noise, I can’t wait to come back home. :-)
